I am not sure whether I am jumping to conclusions so I will post this thread and ask your opinions. Last Wednesday the 15th I purchased a knife from a fellow forumite, I paid by PAYPAL and I thought everything was good. After the payment transaction was completed I email the guy back and ask if he would let me know when the knife was shipped and how it would be shipped, he got back to me that he would and he said thanks. 2 days later on Friday the 17th I emailed him back and inquired about the shipping status and he replied back that it would go out on his way to work on Saturday morning via USPS priority mail. On Monday night I emailed him back to see if he had shipped the knife because I had not gotten an email from him since Friday. So today, Wednesday the 22nd I get home and still no knife, mind you this forumite lives in New York only 175 miles from where I live, at most if he waited till Monday to ship the knife it would be here by today by USPS priority mail. I checked out this persons transaction history on the Good, Bad, and Ugly forum and he got good reviews so I didn’t hesitate to deal with him.

I would have felt that if I paid right away with PAYPAL on Wednesday night that at the latest the knife would be shipped out by Saturday and more likely on Friday. I have a policy that if someone pays right away with PAYPAL that I do my best to ship out the next day and at the latest the day after, if I can’t then I email them and tell them why and when I expect to get the knife out to them.

This is Wednesday night the 22nd and I have not received an email from this person since Friday, the thing that bothers me the most is that I have seen him on the forum and he has posted over the last couple of days. I also sent him a private message earlier today when I saw that he was on and I got no response from that.

If anyone has any feelings on this please let me know. I will be the first to admit that I am an impatient person but when I pay promptly is it too much to ask that it be shipped promptly and if not don’t I deserve an email telling me why?

I don't know your circumstances, but in all my recent trades, we agree on a ship date. Perhaps you should do the same. I have never shipped later than 2 days late due to circumstances or laziness (I admit it)

Once or twice I have taken at most 3 days to ship but I always email the other party and inform them of when I will ship. I wouldn't have that big a problem with it if I could get and email explanation.

Yeah, it's great when a knife flies into my hot & sweaty hands in a hurry! I love it when they arrive the day before they get mailed out :D And seriously, I've had a few get here so fast I really was surprised -- and delighted.

But. I had a money order I sent take so long I was sure it was lost. I just got a knife that took a month to get here after its mailing date. I winced at the thought of a problem, but I'm very glad I didn't assume the other guy was at fault somehow, or that he thought I was.

Instant gratification, or a mature assessment of the vagaries of outrageous misfortune? Lots of luck! Don't be too quick to blame someone publicly, please. It hurts to see your name dragged through the mud, and who knows what unintended consequences held up delivery?

I do agree that we should make an extra effort to be communicative when things go wrong.

I don't intend to post the name of this forumite but I would really like an explanation. This persons knows who they are and the thing that upsets me most is that I have seen this person on the forums and he has posted over the last couple of days but he can't return my email, come on.

I can also see if this person lived on the west coast and if I had paid with a money order but he lives 175 miles from me and I paid instantly with PAYPAL. The last email that I got from this person stated that the knife would be shipped on Saturday and that email was received on Friday.

I guess all I can do is wait and see what happens.

It is possible that the mail is just running slow as it tends to do when we really want something. However it is very agrivating when one party will not have the common courtesy to keep up communication.

I am in agreement that the mail, even Priority Mail, can be delayed. The thing that would really piss me off is the lack of communication from someone that I know is regularly using his computer. There is no excuse for ignoring someones messages.

In this case even if his email is down he should have answered your private message. Then again, maybe he logged off before you sent the message and he has not been back since? It's always a possibility.

Smells fishy to me.I have had a few trades this week and the mail seems to be running faster than normal.Glockman99 sent me a package on saterday and it got hear monday.
If he refuses to return your emails, post his name and he will have to respond.

This wasn't our deal, but the situation sounds almost similar, so please bear with me as I try to 'relive' the details...

I recently sold a knife on a Wednesday (night) too, and the buyer asked how I wanted to be paid (check/MO/Paypal)...well, being that I was throwing in insured shipping, I didn't want to take the Paypal hit, on top of ebay listing fees...

So, I said a check/MO would be fine, sent to (in my hurry, I gave the wrong address, mixing up my PO box zip code with my home zip code), and stated that I'd send the knife off 'right away'...

Thursday morning's staff meeting turned into the late night 'Thursday from hell', with no time to make the Post Office run...

A very rushed Friday morning at work finished tying up Thursday's loose ends, a quick funeral service for a friend of 30 years, and I was soon at the airport, flying out of town for the weekend...

No checked bags meant no knives traveling with me, so the 'sold' knife sat in the truck at the airport for the weekend...

A late flight in on Sunday night meant that Monday was going to be 'the day', and after work on Monday I raced to the P.O...just to find out it was a holiday, and no mail was going out that day...

Tuesday was another race for the P.O., hoping to get there before closing...and I did. The line was out the door (post holiday blues), and I was told that I wasn't going to 'make the cut-off, sorry'...

Wednesday was 13 hours at work, and on Thursday at 5 PM the parcel was finally sent...Thursday night I got an email from the buyer asking where the knife was? "On the way" said I...as a follow up to an email I'd sent around Monday...

Hopefully, someday, the check will arrive...

Did I 'Bofo' this one? You bet. Will I ever get paid? Maybe.

Shiite happens, YMMV...

I ship all my knives via USPS..for .45 cents extra you can get delivery confirmation. This provides a tracking no. Which the day the package is mailed I email to the buyer. This way I know and the buyer knows that if there are any problems in shipping it is not because I am sitting at my computer with my money and his knife ..enjoying the good life..for .45 cents buyers should insist on a delivery confirmation number..

Seller contacted me via email last night and everything appears to be good, he explained what happened and the knife should be waiting for me when I get home tonight. It appears that I jumped to conclusions and I am happy to admit that, it was my fault and not the fault of the seller. Like I said before I am not the most patient person in the world but I am working on it.

To all who posted thanks for the advise.

You didn't name any names,so I see no problem with asking for advise on the situation.I'm very impatient too,but few valid reasons exist for not at least keeping up some communication on the situation.Thats all you were asking for,and should not be sorry for expecting some courtesy.
