Advise needed on first Military purchase

Thanks,
Two weeks with me and the knife just continues to impress me.

Again, this is my first flat grind so my relative experience with the other grinds might be giving me a different perspective.

It's a joy to use around the house. zip ties, hard plastics, cardboard, thin branches, roots, etc. It cuts with very little effort needed.

When should I start touching up the blade on the Sharpmaker?

opinions vary on this. some say, as soon as it starts to go only a the slightest little but duller, immediately touch up on the ultra-fine. personally i don't have experience with the sharpmaker, but i'd just wait till the lack of cutting starts to get on your nerves somewhat and touch up on the stones, starting with medium, up till fine. no need for ultra-fine IMO.
If I only use it on light duty, can I just run it by the flat side of the fine stone of sharpmaker?

yep

Is it advisable to use steel to roll up the edge from time to time?

unless you know what you're doing, no, and depending on what you mean by 'steel'. i've used a diamond steel-rod every now and then to sharpen folders, it can be done and won't do harm, but make sure you got skills.

good to hear dude! great knife ain't it, ah it's such sweety :D . i answered your Q's below your text in the quote in bold.

denn

PS. if you need advice on using the sharpmaker, ask others over here or stop by at the spyderco-com forum. i have no exp. with the sharpmaker, i use cheap-ass stones from walmart......
