This info is straight from Knifesteelnerds.com:
420 with .38% carbon will let you get up to 57-58 RC, and it has excellent corrosion resistance and toughness.

I was referring to the article called "Corrosion Resistance Testing of Stainless Knife Steels".This info is straight from Knifesteelnerds.com:
14C28N max thickness is 4mm. 420HC at rough finish has the same resistance as D6 and D6 is bad. There is an issue with hardness. Harder is more resistant. So D6 @65HRC for a weird reason resists as 420HC @57HRC. That's why I am looking at steels that can go for 60HRC. Dipping knives in oil over winter is to be avoided. I want them clean in the spring just as when stored.
Didn't know it can go that high. I'll push it higher and check again. Below is what happened. With and without flash. The thrower is 420HC. Others are D6. On the small one there is a part with remainder of electro etching for corrosion resistance. It served the purpose but weakened the steel as electricity creaps in and creates massive amount of crack propagation sites. I have abandoned the idea. Cerakote for non SS is still the best solution.Thats interesting. My gut tells me heat-treated 420HC should always be more rust resistant then D6 no matter the hardness, but I am unsure of that.
After HT and dry ice bath I am hitting 61-62 HRC with 1.4034 from Eurotechni (1060°).
That’s the joys of importingJust checked the prices of LC200N in US. Holly bananas, that's high. In EU is half the price in retail and quarter buying direct from Bohler.
And I'm cursing Europe for customs and tax! That’s the joys of importing
