Welcome to my 10th Annual “Going to the Dogs” sale. I started doing this, well, 10 years ago, as a way of combining two things I dearly love: dogs and pocket knives. You can see last year’s sale here: 9th Dog Sale and it in turn has a link to the previous year’s sale, and so on, all the way back to the first one in December, 2012.
During the past couple of sales, I mentioned that our pack of 4 rescue dogs had dwindled to 3 with the loss of our big shepherd, Boy, and then to 2 when we lost our “Little Big Man”, Petey. Our remaining 2, Mia, our pointer and canine queen, and Chico, our little chihuahua mix, are hanging in there at 14 and 13 1/2 yoa, respectively, although our dear girl Mia has her share of health problems. But we’re doing our very best to keep them as healthy and happy as possible in their old age.
As before, 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go to worthy organizations which support the pups. I always try to choose organizations which can secure a matching donation commitment, so as to double the total funds going to the cause. As with last year, the recipients this time will be the Austin Humane Society: https://austinhumanesociety.org/ and the Duo Duo Project: https://www.duoduoproject.org/, two great organizations which do so much for our 4-legged friends. And importantly, both organizations have now secured matching donation commitments, so once again this sale will have double bang-for-the-buck impact.
The sale this year will be a little smaller in scale. The truth is, as the sale has grown and the number of knives to photograph, describe, price, pack, and ship has increased, it’s become more work than this 70 year old knife and dog man can take on. So I’ve made the hard decision to not accept any more donated knives from my generous supporters. This means that, other than a few donated knives from last year’s sale which I’ll include, it’ll be just my own knives that I list.
One of the most gratifying aspects of this sale has been the friendships I’ve made with the generous members who’ve sent me knife donations over the years. While I won’t be taking in their knives any longer, I look forward to maintaining my friendships with these wonderful gentlemen.
Though I’m downsizing my sale a bit, what I’m really hoping is that some of my past donors, or anyone else who’d like to help the pups, will do a simultaneous benefit sale of their own here on BF. They could designate their proceeds for a shelter in their community or for any other dog welfare organization they choose. And for anyone who takes me up on this, please let me know and we can each include a link to the other’s sale.
As in past years, this sale will have numerous “Parts” which add new knives as we go. So please keep checking back. I’ll also have some nice flashlights (another love of mine) for sale, which I’ll list on the Gadgets & Gear subforum (and I’ll post a link here when I get those up a bit later).
Once the sales are done and the total proceeds are donated, I'll post the acknowledgment letters from the organizations. I should note that before the very first one of these benefit sales, I ran it by our friendly neighborhood supermod and he kindly gave me the green light---thanks again, Mike, and thank you, BladeForums.

8/13/22 Update: This is a sad update. I mentioned above our 2 remaining rescues, Mia and Chico. Our Pointer, Mia, at the age of 14 years and 3 months, has passed away just as I'm wrapping up this sale. She has been the Canine Queen of our household for so many years, as well as my avatar here on BF, and there is now a big hole in our hearts. But she had a great dog's life, for which we are thankful, and is now in a better place. This 10th annual sale, likely the last of this size and scope, is now dedicated to her. RIP, dear girl.
8/19/22 Update: It's a wrap! This sale is now officially over and the donations have been made. Part 8 has all the details here: Part 8

International Sales Policies:
I like the international character of BF and so I’m usually willing to jump through the extra hoops to do international sales. But as this benefit sale is a fair amount of work, I’ve got to place some limits. So, apologies, but it’s U.S.A. only for this sale.

Now that all that’s out of the way, let’s get on to the knives.
Thanks, and thanks for helping the pups!
Andrew

Let’s start off the sale here in Part 1 with a bunch of nice Case knives.
1) Case Swayback Gent #T.B. 61117 in Dark Molasses Bone. 3 3/16” closed. Stainless blade. I darkened the bone a little and IMHO it’s now even nicer looking than it was out of the box.
Sharpened to a nice edge and used very little.
Includes box & paperwork. $45.00 SOLD
2) Case Swayback Jack #TB62117 in Hunter Green Jigged Bone. Sharpened to nice edges. Stainless blades. Used almost none. A beautiful example of this classic pattern.
I bought this knife from Bob Bendell, “Big Biscuit” here on BF, a couple of years before his untimely death. He was a heckuva nice guy, a great contributor to the forum, and is missed by all who knew him.
Includes box & paperwork. $60.00 SOLD
