Welcome to my 8th Annual “Going to the Dogs” Sale. I’ve been doing this for eight years now (hard to believe!), and it’s been great fun and very rewarding. You can see last year’s sale here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...e-dogs”-sale-dedicated-to-boy-part-1.1667277/ and it in turn will provide a link to the previous year’s sale, and so on and so on, back to the first one in December of 2012.

We are dog lovers in my family, always have been, always will be, and eight years ago I had an idea for a way to combine my love of pocket knives with my love of dogs by selling off some of my collection to benefit worthy organizations which help the pups.

In my 6th Annual Sale two years ago, I posted a pic of my wife and me with our 4 rescue dogs: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/afaustin’s-6th-annual-going-to-the-dogs-sale-part-1.1591177/ Then last year, I sadly reported that our big blonde shepherd, Boy, had passed away. Well, our 4 rescues were all of advanced age, and this past September we lost another one, Petey, our “Little Big Man”, which he truly was---all 13 lbs. of him. He definitely punched above his weight and I once had to come between him and a perplexed Great Dane who had somehow rubbed him the wrong way! But the vast majority of the time he was calm and wise, a veritable little Buddha. We gave him a good life here and he enjoyed it, and particularly adored my wife Rosalinda. We’ll always remember and miss him, and this year’s sale is dedicated to Petey.

As in past years, 100% of the proceeds of the sale will go to organizations which help dogs. I try to choose organizations which have some sort of matching funds challenge available, so that the sale’s contribution gets double bang-for-the-buck. The last couple of years I split the proceeds between two terrific organizations, the Austin Humane Society: http://www.austinhumanesociety.org/ and Soi Dog: https://www.soidog.org/ and each did have a matching funds opportunity, so the contributions were doubled. I’m still communicating with organizations at present and trying for the matching funds, so stay tuned on that.

Likewise as in past years, I’m getting lots of help from some outstanding folks who love dogs as much as they love knives. These great friends from here on the forum, just as they have done for the last several years, are sending me a bunch of quality knives to add to the sale. They have asked to remain anonymous but they know they have my sincere gratitude for their generosity and good hearts.

I have a lot of knives to sell, so as in past years, this sale will have several “Parts” which will go up every week or so, adding a new group of knives. So please keep checking back.

Once the sales are done and the total proceeds are donated, I'll post the acknowledgment letters from the organizations. I should note that before the very first one of these benefit sales, I ran it by our friendly neighborhood supermod and he kindly gave me the green light---thanks again, Mike, and thank you, BladeForums.

7/2/20 Update: I'm going to start withdrawing a few of the knives from the various "Parts" (my knives, not the ones from my generous donors) which aren't selling and offer them up on ebay. I'll be tallying up the numbers, confirming the matching funds, making the donations, and getting the letters from the beneficiary organizations. Then I'll put up a final thread with all that information and wrap up the sale. So please stay tuned for that!

8/1/20 Update: It's a wrap! This sale is now officially over and the donations have been made. Part 8 has all the details here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/afaustin’s-8th-annual-going-to-the-dogs-sale-part-8-donations-made.1742502/

Once we have a deal, please post an "I’ll take it" in this sales thread, since that’s required for us both to leave feedback, which I think is important.

By buying these knives you are stating that you are at least 18 years of age, and otherwise in compliance with all applicable laws regarding them.

International Sales Policies:

I like the international character of BF and so I’m usually willing to jump through the extra hoops to do international sales. But as this sale has grown in size and become a good deal more work, I’ve got to place some limits. So, apologies, but it’s U.S.A. only for this sale.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now that all that’s out of the way, let’s get on to the knives!
Thanks, and thanks for helping the pups!
Andrew
6) Boker Tree Brand Trapper in smooth natural bone. Full size trapper at 4 1/8" closed. Stamped on tang is “H. Boker & Co Solingen”, which signifies a 100% German made Boker: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/beer-barrel-trapper.1651695/#post-18892041
I believe the blades, which have a beautiful high polish, are carbon based on a quick mustard/patina test. The edges appear to be factory and are well done and decently sharp. The bone is really beautiful—my pics don’t do it justice. The bolsters are scuffed up and need a good polishing which I’ll leave to the new owner.
Includes box (worn and may not be correct box for this knife). $45.00 SOLD
The red shield on the black covers is handsome. The bolsters are a little scuffed and would benefit from a good polishing which I’ll leave to the new owner.
Includes box. WITHDRAWN
9) Case Mini Moose #62032 in Red Sawcut Bone. Stainless blades. 3 5/8" closed. Originally had a small spot on the edge of the clip blade from blade rap (where the blade hits the back spring when closed with enthusiasm), so I inserted a tiny piece of cork in the well under the tang to remedy that. Sharpened to nice edges (which may’ve taken care of the blade rap, but I’ll leave the cork in place to be on the safe side). Minor blade rubs and very lightly used.
When I first got this knife in, I did a little review: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/a-small-moose-is-loose-case-mini-moose-mini-review.1466171/
Includes box & paperwork. $40.00 SOLD
10) Case Mini Trapper #4207 in smooth white synthetic. Ichthus shield. Stainless blades. New in box. I won this in a drawing and haven’t used, carried, or sharpened it. While the Mini Trapper is one of my all time favorite Case patterns, I have way too many of them.
Includes box & paperwork. $35.00 SOLD
My friend, every time you post this, my Heart melts.
I absolutely love dogs, my first boy was a big Rottie- Luke, what a gorgeous lovely big Boy he was, he was with me for 14 & 1/2 years. Oh man I can still see his eyes now!
After some time I took in rescue Murphy as a wee puppy, one of my life terrible times is when we had to end his lovely life at only 2 & 1/2 because of a inoperable Tumour that was filling his eye socket - I still mourn my two losses deeply to this day!
We now have another wee rescue- Izzy - she is in my Avatar, while my Wife and I were looking at Photos of lovely Murphy - he was gone just a short while - we were sharing a sad moment when we heard this tiny wee dog crying outside the door behind us, this Cold, Wet night brought in this wee puppy in such terrible condition, her face was just alive with Fleas- she was beside herself from the Fleas.
I scooped her up and Flea bathed her in warm water, and combed the horrible parasite bodies off her. Sue shot down to get some food for her, she was a real SPCA photo of Mange and Bones, I can tell you- if someone had turned up to try and take her away? I'm pretty sure they would never have left the property - never have I been so angry by seeing this terrified little wee thing in such terrible condition- but it was the fear that I saw she had experienced immediately I felt I had to take her in.
Having led the life of a Queen, Izzy now has the doors of life closing in on her now, her last chapter, at 15 & 1/2 years old my Girl is going leave us very soon- she may surprise us eh? She can get to the end of my drive way and back for her walk - we used to walk for Miles!
I don't want to buy a knife as that can be others way of contributing, but please if you are ok with this-pm me your paypal and I would like to donate some money your way.
Lil' Petey looked just beautiful, I am sorry you lost your friends, makes us feel great we take them in and loved them so much, but when they leave - it just tears me to bits to the degree I don't think I quite heal up - I am sure you know very well just what I mean.
Pm me please Andrew, and forgive time delay for replies.
Only thing worse than losing a dog, in my opinion, is a parent losing a child, or a spouse losing a spouse they truly love. So sorry to hear about Petey.
birdave, thank you for your kind words and I agree. It hurts every time.
Duncan, what a beautiful post. I almost choked up myself reading it. You have a very good heart to have taken in these dogs and given them a loving home. I've learned that many great "knife men" are even greater "dog men", and you are a prime example.
Thank you for your very kind offer. PM coming.
Andrew
hi hun...do you need more knives or items I can donate to the cause?
Hi, Ann.
Great to hear from such a strong supporter of this sale! And I know of your love for the animals---when I spoke of "dog men" in the post above, I should've said "and dog women"! I have your email address (unless it's changed) and I'll send you a message right now.
Many thanks,
Andrew
May I please get 2, 9, & 10... thank you - I need your paypal address...
