I am looking for some info on Afazalia wood. Anyone know of a source for it?
Also does it need stabilizing? I have never used it but like the looks of it. Thanks for any info.

I think the common spelling is 'afzelia'. There are stabilized pieces for sale on ebay. Haven't looked, but there should be some available from exotic wood dealers.

blankety-blanks.com has some beautiful pieces.

I have only seen two wood dealers that have sold stabilized Afzelia burl and Afzelia xylay. Gallery Hardwoods and Wood Stabilizing Specialists International. Give them a call. They should be able to supply you with a piece. Good luck.

That is some really neat stuff. Thank you for posting the pictures, but now I'm going to be very tempted to spend some money on the stuff. I wonder if cross cut hardwoods in Portland ever gets some of it

Walt, I have a lot of Afzelia, all stabilized. What size do you need.I'll be glad to send you a piece.
You can find it at many wood suppliers, even Woodcraft.
It needs stabilizing to make a good handle ( I get Mike at WSSI to do mine). The pattern is either burl, which looks like Amboyna; or Afzelia lay ,which has that unique netting pattern. Both are beautiful.

724wd,
Those are some really beautiful pieces. You just proved wrong my opinion of afzelia burl! I have purchased several pieces, form a variety of quality sources, and none ever looked as good in person as the pictures. Always end up giving it away or throwing it in a corner. Yours however is GREAT! Will definitely have to check out that link!

Sorry about the mis-spell. I saw it spelled this way on a couple of knife pictures over on the Custom Knife Forum. Stacy, email sent.
