Yes, the Griptilian is ugly, but it is a case of form following function. The handle is very ergonomic and grippy and the blade is the proper shape for good cutting.
The Axis lock is the best production folder lock you can get right now.
Glass reinforced nylon over steel liners is actually my favorite folder handle format. It allows production companies to provide highly contoured handle shapes instead of the standard G-10 slab. The construction is plenty strong for a utility folder, it is lightweight, and durable.
440C is one of my favorite steels too. Stain resistant, pretty tough, takes a fine edge, may hold an edge fairly well depending on heat treat.
The AFCK is a great design, but I don't do liner locks any more unless they have a safety, or it is a pretty little gents folder.
Another knife to consider is the Spyderco Vesuvious with the compression lock. I love Spyderco's designs, but hate those narrow hollow grinds.
