First post here, but I am a long time knive nut.

I bought a AFCK 806 D2 in 2005 or 2006 after becoming a LEO (could now conceal a 4" blade legally). Love the knife and used it extensively for years for work, edc, and even cutting up big game. Broke the tip doing something stupid about eight years ago. A call to Benchmade revealed they didn't have any blades for it.

Well, I dremeled down the tip and kept going with it. A month ago I decided to send it in for a sharpening. Low and behold, they told me they had found D2 uncoated blades in the warehouse!

Just got the knife back today and was surprised to see the blade is marked S30V. Equally surprised to find that Benchmade forgot to sharpen the new blade...

Is anyone aware of a this steel being used in the 806?

Upload the picture to like photobucket.com. I have an app on the phone and just share pictures with the app and it uploads it. Other folks use imgur or something similar

That's interesting. I got a mini Rukus off the forum recently that Benchmade had rebladed with a 154cm blade. I thought that Rukuses came only with S30V. Maybe they're making replacement blades from different steels.

Hey PB & welcome!!
Awesome service from BM, but they didn't sharpen it??
That's weird!! If you can wait for a week or so, send it back if you don't want to do it yourself.
You have to figure out how to post a pic brother!!

Yeah, I would call it a "blade blank", no edge worked in at all. No complaints though, due to a longer turn around time, they didn't charge me a dime. Even sent back my old blade since I requested it.

I will send it back for a sharpening.

The 806-701 limited edition had a S30V blade. (also carbon fiber scales.)

Likewise, there was a 615-2 limited edition with 154CM blade, blue/black G10 scales, and weirdly, assisted opening.

If you ever pull that one apart for cleaning or tweaking, it might be interesting to check for a machined pocket around the pivot for a coil spring.

Ok, picture attemp...

Broken for me... try pulling the direct image links (should end in an image file extension, like .jpg) and embed those with the bbcode tags if you want to embed, or just post a link to the whole album.

Embed like so -

Also, the pics I've seen of 806-701s have the steel marking to the top left of the opening hole, not to the right, so this may be from something else unless they marked the spare blades differently.

"806-701". Aha! That's where this blade came from! Mystery solved.

Not sure how much I will carry this around once I get it sharpened (kind of a collectors piece?), but boy is she smooth after being taken apart at the factory. No blade play and quicker than my new 940-2.

Try it this way...

From imgur or other photo-sharing app find the "direct link" code for your pic and copy that. Here at BF at the reply box find the picture icon in the bar at top (next to the smilie link), click on that and paste it into the "image url" box that opens up. Hit "insert" to complete the operation and Voila!--comes out just like this....
