AFCK vs Axis - which one do you prefer?

Now that the newness has worn off, who prefers the Axis to the AFCK. Not me. I like to flick it open, I like the blade shape, opening hole, and the ergonomic handle offfers great finger protection.

I agree. I like the blade and handle design of the AFCK better. I also like the blade hole better than thumbstuds. I just got a 730, and I like it alot. I like the 730 better than the 710, but I don't like either more than the AFCK. An Axis lock AFCK sure would be sweet though.

The BM 720 is my favorite Benchmade so far. I like the size, blade profile and Al. handle. The full sized AFCK is a bit too much for my needs.

I love the AFCK for the same reasons given above (hole x stud, safer handle and better blade design), but I'd also like to see an Axis lock version of it.

For one thing, it'd have a reversible clip, making it ambidextrous - a big improvement, IMHO. It'd be great to have a plain blade, ambi AFCK, especially now that Benchmade has discontinued its left handed models.

How about an EDI type ambi-clip on an AFCK-II? With an axis lock. (While, I'm at it - throw in BG-42!) :-)

I prefer the axis over the AFCK but the mini AFCK over both.Go figure.

I prefer the 710 Axis Lock over the AFCK.

I like the 710 better than the AFCK. Although I am a huge Spyderco fan (I have dozens of them!), I don't miss the hole on the 710. Its big studs are very easy to flick, and the knife is so smooth that it takes almost no effort to open. I don't see how a hole would be alot faster. I prefer the 710's handle. The AFCK's is too long for my taste. I like the tip up carry mode of the axis lock knives, it reminds me of Spyderco. The 730, BTW, is even better.

I was also gaga over the 710 cause it was my first folder and the newest thign at the time but when i got my afck it changed that.. tI felt that the AFCK filled the hand better and in many occations was safer to use. I also like the blade shape better.

I have no opinions on the locking mechs though.

I like Axis locking device more than linerlock but the blade and handle shape of AFCK matches my needs better. So I carry AFCK.
AFCK with Axis Lock and ambidextrous pocket clip would be very close to my ideal of tactical folder.

Although the 710 seems to be the more sophisticated of the two, I prefer the AFCK due to the ability to "flick open" or by pinching the hole between thumb and index finger with the "tip up", letting the inertia of the handle throw the blade open. However I think the 710 works very well for a righty as backup to be carried on the "left side".

BM 710. I like this knife much better. On mine, the quality is better than AFCK I had.

If BM could come up with an axis AFCK (or my preference would be for a mini axis AFCK), I think they would be a hot item.

had a afck -but lost it-----bought spyderco viele -but lost it------liked afck better-------just ordered mini afck ,with tool steel.maybe i can hang on to it!!--

One of the Great Questions AFCK or Axis. Just like Wheat or White, or Whopper Vs. Big Mac.
I just can't decide. These are the only two knives that compete for my daily carry slot. I'm just as likely to grab one as the other. But then, maybe I'm just indecisive.

I own both of them, and they both have their merits. I like the rock solid lock on the axis, but the liner on the AFCK aint too shabby either. The axis lock 710 is super smooth, but lacks the fun factor of flicking it open with your wrist, although both would be very fast. What I want to see is Benchmade start making these with BG42 blades and, how about grinding the edges a little thinner? Kinda hard to get a hair poppin edge on them, as thick as they grind em. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have both.

The Axis lock design is doubtlessly the most innovative thing to happen in knife design recent years. It's a great lock.

Unfortunately, Benchmade's implimentations of it so far have been tip-up carry designs. Therefore, the AFCK is better.

I understand that the Axis lock mechanism addresses the issue of the blade coming partially open in your pocket and stabbing you in the hand as you draw it. But, I still think that tip-down is the superior way to carry a conventional folder, any conventional folder for reasons beyond this.

I echo the interest shown by so many here to see a tip-down AFCK-like knife with an Axis lock.

I like the handle of the AFCK much more, I also love the fact that it has an opening hole instead of thumb stud. I like the lock on the Axis more and the slightly recurved blade cuts well enough. Overall, I favor the AFCK.
