AFCK + ziptie = WOW!

So it does kill the lock?
I've owned and carried an Emerson Commander with the wave for 5 years and use(open via WAVE) it EVERY day(probably 50-100 times/day just playing with it :) ) and my liner lock has NEVER failed and doesnt' show any sign of failing... I've done the test of hitting spine of blade and it never gives.... The blade loosens up, but with a slight turn of pivot screw and it is back to normal. Awesome knife, and mya I say that this ziptie thing is a BRILLIANT idea/invention!!! :D Very cool!

its noticably loosening the piviot screw but besides that its fine for now. id just like to know what it actually damages.

Anyone every waved a Mini AFCK? I am wanting to relocate the clip for tip up carry and give this a shot.. if it works out well.. I am thinking of taking the dremal to it and making it a permenant feature of it.. the thumb hole on the mini is pretty small for my thumb and I already own a Mini waved CQC7 ..
I have tried to search for alternatives but have had no luck so far.. someone mentioned a removable wave on a pickle knife .. but i could not find a link to it or picture.. I really hate the idea of hacking on my little mini AFCK .. but if it works or if someone else has done this and has knowledge of it.. it would help me out alot on the decision to do so..

Thanks for any advise or tips..

I personally have had my 806d2 zip tied for probably 8-12 months. The lock seem to be as good as new (and I play with it alot). I recomend putting a drop of super glue on the zip where you cut it to help it lock on. I also own an emerson (socfk) with the wave, and I would have to say that due to the tightness I like to have on the pivot screw of my emerson, the afck opens much easier. -Also, the emerson locks up like new too (and I play with it alot).
Waving the mini would be cool with a zip tie. I, personally don't think I'd grind it though.

This pics are here, but you'll have to register to see 'em:

I've had my AFCK zip-tied since almost the day I bought it, and I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. It's so quick and easy to open it that way, and it's quite reliable when you're wearing jeans. As my other posts indicate, I'm searching for ways to wave other knives as well as my AFCK & mini-Grip.

It's just too handy and too much fun to not add others to the party. :)

Thanks for the link to the picture.. I registered and still am not quite sure where to purchase a removable wave..

I am wondering if there are any other neat things to attach to the hole on this instead of hacking on it or using a plastic zip tie.. .. just something to make it easier to get open rather than flicking it.. like maybe a hood like on some of the spyderco's I have seen ..

The removeable Wave is not available for purchase. It is a feature unique to that knife.

BTW I dont really recommend the zip tie thing for anything more than experimental purposes. The last thing you want to do is rely on a cheap piece of very breakable plastic in a SHTF type of scenario.

Hearing about the folks putting zipties on spyderholes to make a poor man's wave inspired me to try it with my 806. The zipties I have around are the kind that are reusable, and that works out well because they can be popped off easily and also provides a little extra protrusion to the side in addition to the rectangular box sticking up from the top.

Let me tell you, this is rediculously cool. Pull the knife out of your pocket and it's open, solidly and consistently.

If you have a knife with a thumb hole and have not tried this, you are really missing out on something.

Thanks to whoever thought of doing this

If you want to make a "holed" knife easier to open, try wrapping thread or fishing line around the outer portion a few times, then seal with super-glue.

Not "wavable," but it does give a larger purchase area for opening.

I've done it with 812, 806, and 630 knives (and some Spyderco knives that friends owned). I use thick yellow kevlar fishing line and gel-type super-glue. The add-on can be easily cut off if you don't like it.

Somethin' to try.

OK well I decided to mod on the lil Mini AFCK a bit more.. I had already polished the hardware on it and ground a recess curve into the Clip for the tip down carry. And smoothed out the tang on the back strap of the blade so it doesn't pinch me anymore.. . . But after reading this article I wanted to try more.. I found that opening up the Spyde thumb hole made regular opening alot easier.. but then I attached the zip tie and added a tiny bit of CA glue to it just to ensure it would not come loose.. I tapped the scales with 4-40 allen head screws and relocated the clip for tip up carry .. and this thing rocks.. I just wish that there was a better way to get the WAVE feature on it with out it being plastic.. Someone should design a bolt on attachment and they could make some good money .. I would buy one for sure..
Anyway thanks for the tips.. Here are some pics..

Also to note.. After I took the knife apart to file flush the new screws. I found that the stock plastic back spacer was cracked in about 5 peices.. So I replaced it with some small brass washeres as a temp fix..

I know some people are going to think OMG he just ruined a discontinued Knife.. But it is more mine now and works alot better so I think I improved on it.. Thanks again for the tips..
