AFCKs

I'm wondering if the AFCK is a little too big for edc. And like the Spyderco Military it might make folks nervous. The factory edge on the 806 D2 is not as sharp as I would like. I'm planning to send it off to Benchmade to be sharpened. I just bought a Spyderco Military s110v. That baby is sharp.

I guess it may make folks nervous. I have to carry a gun at work so that’s not a concern. It does carry smaller than the military though, more efficient design.

If you're not gonna EDC your AFCKs, what are you gonna do with that Miillie?

I should carry my AFCKs more, as they're great knives. I like my 806 D2 for the AXIS lock and tip-up carry. The knife is basically LNIB and has a very sharp factory edge. Unfortunately, I'm way too protective of black blades and can't bear the thought of scratching it up. I've dressed it up a bit with a black-oxide split arrow

The ATS34 blade on my 800 gets scary-sharp with very little effort and that knife gets pocket time from time to time. It's tip down only, but that doesn't stop me from carrying any of my several Millies either.

The other great contemporaneous BMK is the TSEK. Mine has a polished blade and has a bright split arrow clip to match. That knife is 440C, gets even more stupidly sharp than its ATS34 cousin, and probably gets the most carry of the three.

I thought I'd use the Millie for tasks around the house that require a large knife. I need to become very familiar with knife laws. I would not want to call my wife to bail me out of jail. If I'm convinced I am not going to get into legal trouble I will start carrying the Millie and theAFCK.

The 710 is another one that's lamentably discontinued. I suppose it was no longer selling enough to justify keeping it in production, but it's such a classic and such a great knife that I find it hard to fathom that BMK let it go. I'm just glad I have two in D2--one user and one in new condition--along with a 710-1402 in M390. I gotta get some custom scales for that one.

If you're using it around the house, I don't see how there could be any legal problems, unless you live in a state/city with knife-restrictive laws and maybe in the front yard waving the knife around ar passers-by. I live in CA used to carry my AFCKs; sometimes a large, sometimes a mini-AFCK. It was a very good design. I liked the Axis TSEK better, though. I also own three 710s. I never had any problems carrying those knives.

I'm pretty sure Benchmade discontinued the AFCK (and TSEK), as well as the 710, due to lagging sales. It wouldn't make sense to discontinue something that's still a hot seller. Although I think those knives were among the very best designs BM ever had.

Knice find, unfortunately I don’t think I have any BNIB knives put away anywhere. Everything gets used here. No safes or vaults, just tackle and cigar boxes with s bunch of old knives.

Here I’m happy when a knife that was MIA shows up months later. Right now I’m missin’ My Victorinox MiniChamp is currently missing but I know it’s in the house somewhere.

Congrats on the great find, now go out and enjoy the heck outta them blades. All time hands down favorite EDC/SD blade.

I'm not worried about legal problems at home. I concerned taking it out in public. I think
that NC allows the carry of a small pocket knife. It does not define what constitutes a small pocket knife. It would be great if statutes were less ambiguous. And this is coming from retired lawyer.

I carried an 806D2 every day for about 10 years. I still have it and it probably has 200 more years of EDC left in it.

It was one of the first, and IIRC it only was tapped for tip down carry unlike the later production examples. I seem to recall the reason I stopped carrying it was a desire to begin carrying tip up. But I may be confusing it with the serrated liner lock version.
