Be sure to check out the new titanium Subcom too when it comes out. It's shorter than 3 inches, but worth a look anyway.
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is available! Price is $250 ea (shipped within CONUS).

I recommend the Kershaw Barrage. Tip up or tip down carry with a 3 1/4" blade and 7 5/8" overall. The steel is Sandvik 14C28N and I have found it to be similar to AUS8 in terms of edge holding and ease of sharpening. 14C28N has Nitrogen in it and is supposed to be just about corrosion proof. I havn't had any issues with my Barrage rusting. Good luck!

Boker Plus M-Type. Phenomenal value and design (the same for the rest of CLB's designs).

long flat comfortable handle, steel liners, linerlock and good enough aus 8 steel
flat grind it slices very well
this is a well built user.
+1 on the Byrd Catbyrd. Someone gave a friend of mine one for Christmas and that thing is an absolute tank. Very nice fit and finish for $30
dollar knife. (I've orded a couple to carry in my vehicles and another for the tackle box)
If I had to wager a guess, I would think VG10 would have superior edge holding compared to both 14C28N and AUS8.
You'd win!
When I think of "affordable frame locks," Kershaw's Groove models immediately jump to mind! I have yet to find a frame lock I like more, and I own some really nice ones!
Does Benchmade still make the Monochrome?
