Hey!

I'm in the market for a new fixed blade tanto style knife. I really lovd the Daniel Fairly D2 Tanto, but it's way out of my price range. I would like to buy a really thick, traditional looking, tanto style fixed blade. Something that looks like that D2 tanto. My budget is about 150 dollars. At that pricepoint, there's nothing but production knives I think. Thanks for the feedback!

Which tanto are you referring too? If you had a link perhaps that would help, as I don't recall a tanto in D2 that was thick.

Also what size? EDC sized, or blade like 6inches or more?

And if you go to your personal settings, you can enable private messaging and/ or emails so people can send you notes.

Annnnnnd, welcome to bladeforums!

Thanks for your reply and your tips for my settings!

I'm referring the custom knife made by Daniel Fairly knives, I believe it's called the D2 Tanto. I will try to post a pic. I'm looking for an edc-sized blade, probably 3-4 inches in blade length. And when I said thick, I meant at least 1/4 inch thick, preferably thicker.
Have a nice day!

I can't think of any production knives that would fit that description.

Just to add to your future collection of customs you might also be interested in Phill Hartsfield's work. Very similar stylings.

OH YEAH! I forgot about that chunk! :)

Well, he didn't make many knives in D2 to begin with... And not many knives thicker than 1/4in. And the ones over 1/4in are longer than 4inch blades..

Hmmm see what I can find out there! GL in your search :)

Maybe in the future I can get a custom blade. As a 15 year old boy, I don't have multi-thousand dollar income. (Don't worry, I'm not that 15 year-old mall ninja) To save for a 150-200 dollar blade, I have to spend more than 3 months pocket money :( . I changed my opinion on the kind of knife I want to get. It can be a folder also. For me it's important that the knife is extremely strong, and it will never break or the lock would never fail. Not that I'm going to chop down a large tree, but I like it when I know that a knife is not going to fail on me no mather what I do with it. If there's a blade that is worth it, I don't mind spending up to 200 dollars.

There's the Boker VoxKnives MTT Mega Tanto. It has a blade thickness of .28" and a blade length of 3.0"...Not sure if CRKT is still making their First Strike Tanto fixed blades or not, but they were really tough yet inexpensive fixed blades. Good luck!

No such thing. Get a CS GI Tanto fixed blade.

Thanks for the replies guys! Compared to a couple of other forums, you are really kind and very helpfull!

I think that de Cold Steel GI Tanto is a little big for EDC, preferably something not longer than 4 inch. For the Boker, I don't like the looks of the knife, but it sure looks like a tank. Is the ZT0620 something that can take a beating? Thanks for replying!

So you go from... custom fixed to it doesn't matter.. and divulge that you are a 15yr old.. so yes, get a CS tanto something knife. It will serve your needs great until you figure out what you like/dislike. GL in your quest!

Tops/Buck CSAR-T Folder

note = I'd ask THE SELLER TO BE SURE BLADE IS SHARP outta the box & also properly aligned ... if they will agree to verify this and it is legit this is the prefect knife for you imho.

The ZT0620 is a folder that would serve you well and there's no reason that it wouldn't hold up as long as it was used as a knife and not a crowbar. I plan on picking up the new ZT/Emerson as ZT has yet to let me down and I own 9 of them.

Cold Steel Recon Tanto? Cold Steel Kobun?

both of those Tanto's are bigger/longer then he wants. Also remember he's a kid.

I do like Cold Steel tantos though:) I've lost 2 or 3 small ones, & 1 master hunter over the years. LOL grrr

Cold steel makes the Recon 1 folder Tanto w/4"blade; he might like that and the price he could get two of them for less then $140.00 easily.

Okay, I read his post and he said he wanted a fixed blade.
Cold Steel has folding tanto's as small as 2" I think. All with a Tri-Ad lock! :D

There's a maker here called hard edged I think. He makes pocket size tanto fixed blades

The only affordable thick stock production tanto I know of
Has probably been discontinued...
I would suggest searching the secondary market if this fits the bill
Crkt's corkum first strike.
