Affordable Thick tanto

Thank you all for your suggestions, I will investigate some more when my exams are finished. The one that Girlymann mentioned seems pretty wicked though. I like that knife. For a folder, the ZT0620 seems pretty interesting. I will let you guys know when I made an order!

Until you put in the length stipulation, I was going to suggest a Miller Bros Blades M7. It's at the upper end of your price range, but - offered in both 1/4" and 5/16" 5160 - it's definitely a thick, durable tanto that isn't likely to fail on you.

That's definitely a nice knife, but as you already stated, it's too long. I don't want to look like a psycho killer while carrying such a huge blade :)

I don't consider 4.5 inches a huge blade...but I'm also not a fan of tanto blades, so that's the only one I knew of off the top of my head. I wasn't even going to mention it until you threw in the part about not wanting it to fail, lol.
The ZT 0700 should be pretty sturdy, but a folding knife can only take just so much abuse.

Hi Dutch, thanks for the kind words!

The Cold Steel Tantos look great for the budget, maybe they make a smaller model.

I'd seriously check out the Customs for Sale by maker area here on Bladeforums, there are some great Knifemakers and the prices are excellent.

Speaking of the D2 Tanto I make... I have a bar of .315" D2 just waiting. :D I need to find the time to make some.

Tanto inspired by Phill Hartsfield! This is the first one I made... back in 2012.

That's sweet looking! Not only could you use it to cut stuff with it but ya could pry your car off the ground and hammer with if needed. Certainly looks to fit the bill. What the length of that?

If I recall correctly it is about 7"-7.5" long with in-palm grip. I make some longer too... each varies by a bit. They are .315" thick!

I may have to push other plans back and get with you about something like that in a bit longer length. I mean it looks a tad fragile, but I bet it would be tough enough for most cutting chores. :D (very nice work!)

It is worth noting that ANY thick blade is a darned good prybar, but will not slice worth a darn.
In general, the thinner the blade, the better it will cut and slice...
Even the large Strider folders don't go thicker than 0.190", and a "good" slicer is usually more in the line of 0.125" or so.
...and, any knife-lock or blade, whatever, can fail. If you take care of even a thin-bladed knife, and not subject it to silly abuse, it will probably be just fine.

here's a good candidate i forgot about.
Timberline Lightfoot 18-Delta 3.75 Tanto Blade Knife, Black (7868)

that manaro tanto was nice. i know of a perfect fixed blade you would love. Only problems I bought it and I'm not gonna sell it. lol

The maker is Jack O'neil . He can make you want you want I'm sure. he's a member here & frankly I don't usually pass on personal makers much; but Mr. O'Neil IS A CUT ABOVE MANY imho.

I have number 3 from the ad below. If you want something nice young man he's the dude you should spend your $$ with. u might want two cause one of them you might want to keep for a safe queen.

You did say "affordable" and "thick", correct?

Just when I was about to order that blade, I noticed that the thickness doesn't go all the way to the point, after an inch or so it becomes pretty thin. I guess I'll be searching for another knife!

The one on the right is a ZT 0700. They are discontinued and can be found for good prices. I love mine  EDC it every day.

I'll also second (or third) the CS Recon Tanto.
