I know the debate of USA made vs not goes on and on. But I'm thinking about going straight USofA made only. So lets not dwell on that right now.

I like large (3.75 plus) folders and need some ideas for "affordable" USA made folders. by affordable I would say below 100 bucks. Lets go with that. What do ya got for me. FYI I usually like manual vs assisted too! (although my ZT 0350 is an exception)

I'm about to get a Benchmade 710 to start officially but would like a couple others that were more affordable to keep it company.

the leatherman e55 expanse is a decent sized folder that is made in USA for under $50 i think. its a pretty good value. 154cm steel, which is what benchmade uses in a lot of their knives.

Let me be the first to say "Buck 110"
You can get one in S30V for less than $100.

If you haven't had an Axis lock I think you will love the 710 ... that is what I was going to recommend when I started reading your post.

Have you considered a BM Barrage?

I have both the full-size and the mini, and I like 'em! The cool thing about them is that they have a secondary lock on the spine that allows you to lock the blade open (basically, turning it into a fixed blade) and lock the blade closed (so it can't open in your pocket).

If you can find one, a G10 Tyrade runs around $80-$100, and is an excellent large blade. It looks a lot like something from the ZT line, and was made by the same company, so its probably pretty close in quality. A very nice beefy folder, with what is IMO the best assisted opening mechanism: Speedsafe.

Although I personally prefer the mini-grip for the more 'solid' feeling handles (from the full stainless steel liners) the Griptilian is a great option for a low price. You have the option of some really great steels, interesting handle flavors, and it's an overall nice knife.

You said you prefer manual vs assisted, and you mentioned you're getting a 710 - I think this would be a great option to segue into the 710.

BM 710 (as you mentioned)

Kershaw Cyclone
Kershaw Speedform
Kershaw Volt
Kershaw Junkyard Dog II

If you are willing to go traditional, check out Great Eastern Cutlery. They have a model called the #23 Pioneer, which is at least the size of a Buck 110 and has a locking blade.

How about the Gerber Covert in 154CM steel? It has a 3.78" blade and weighs about the same as he 710 at 4.2 ounces and is made in the U.S.
