Anyone know of any good sources for African Blackwood? I plan to make some carved Scottish dirk handles.

this wood is available in an on and off basis, as it is used extensively in the music instrument making industry...I would try gilmers wood in oregon.....he usually has some and the stuff that he carries usually has very nice subtle figure. sometimes you just plain cant get it...one other point...most of it (maybe all-i dont know) is impregnated with some sort of oil as most goest to make wind instruments and the oil stablizes it very well.

Try Gilmer's for sure, and if all else fails, I've got quite a bit of it. I want to use some of it, but I'd sell some of it too. They're 1.25x1.25x11. But the stuff I saw at Gilmer's last time had more figure.
