The knife was inspired by a photo i saw of an african hornet. Some of the details include a fine texturing covering the handle and spine which would represent the hairs on the body, the shape of the cut-away on the handle is similar to that of the eyes, the ivory is also shaped the same way. The handle was sculpted to represent the segmented legs and antenna, and the blade point is similar to the pointed mouth.

Inside the cutaway is an abstract sort of honeycomb carved out. And randomly there are very light copper accents, just to catch the eye.

The blade is chisel ground and has an attractive hamon.

The scale is mammoth ivory, and I have spoken to Sandra Brady who has agreed to scrim the face of this hornet in close up on the ivory. There are 1/16'' hand made ivory pins holding the scale on(as well as epoxy) And i chose to do the pins that way so they could be hidden in the scrim design. I didnt feel the ivory was thick enough to go with hidden pins that would securely hold it.

I am listing this for sale now because i dont really have the funds at the moment up front to send off for the scrimshaw work, so If interested, upon payment, the piece will be shipped to Sandy and then to a photographer, by the sounds of her email, it should be ready to go with in 4wks. Which is pretty good considering on larger pieces her wait time in around a year if i remember correctly.

Can have an wooden box made for display if desired. Price will differ dependeing on if you want this with it.

price $700, paypal and credit card and accepted
