Hello Guys, I've been admiring Peter Marzitelli's knives for a while in Blade magazine, especially the Condor 4. Have any of you held any of Peter's knives? How are they made - handle construction, dimensions, fit and finish etc. I dont own any custom knives and I'm tired of buying the production models. Peter's knives look great and seem strong and comfortable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Pete

Mr. Marzitelli doesn't live too far from me. I've handled a few of his knives. All are very nice, and well worth the money.

He is best known for his folders, but makes some really nice fixed blades too.

I spent some time at Peters table last year
at the Blade Show West.I was really disapp-
ointed with his knives.I examined 4 folders
and only 1 had a positive lock up.I have
liked the design of his knives but that is no
excuse for this! The blades were well done,
straight grind lines, the handles were well
fitted but without solid lock up what good
is that?He also will not answer his e-mail.
The owner of Delta Z told me he ordered a
folder from Peter and when Mr. Zellman ( I hope I got his name right) tried to send it
back to have a pocket clip added Peter refused to do it.There are a lot of great
guys out there like Kit Carson,Bob Terzuola
etc.to put up with poor craftsmanship and
poor follow up.

Ron: I'm suprised by you comments. I own one of Peters' knives and have handled several others at shows, including the one you were at. Based on my experience and that of others ( see the thread on underated makers ) your impressions haven't been experienced by others. I'm not saying your wrong. I just haven't heard similar sentiments from others. What exactly do you mean by the lock up wasn't " positive " ? Your other comments indicate a problem that a few too many makers have, a lack of understanding on how to run a business. Why have e mail if you don't reply to it? I'll give you a good example of how it should be done. I sent a knife I bought on the forums to Martin Pullen to have a clip put on. He refurbished the entire 5 year old knife for no cost. (only charged me for the clip )That's how you build a loyal client base.

Thanks for your thoughts fellas. It is always a risk ordering knives from the states without being able to handle them first. I have found it is very haphazard when it comes to liner locks and other locks. Even the best factory knives can be a bit hit and miss. The money one has to pay for a custom/handmade should ensure a well made lock that will not fail.

Cheers

Sorry to ruffle any feathers.Iam new to your
forum.Have followed you for quite some time
but have never posted before.By the lock up problem I mentioned the leaf spring only
made partial contact with the blade. In this
case 30%-50% contact on the 3 folders mentioned.I have examined many custom folders
and have not seen this before.I know this is
easily remedied but this should be done at the shop not after the fact on the sale table or after the sale.A custom folder is an investment and should have good fit and finish. If all we want is smilly faces and
back pats maybe I on the wrong forum.I never have been one to pull my punches,I tell it
as I see it.
