Hi All,
I've posted in other forum, no response. May be I'll have better luck here :)

Back in the day bodycote used to take orders from consumers or customers to coat individual blades. I managed to get BC coating on my Benchmade Nimravus, 710, ares... Then they stopped taking orders.

Do you guys know someone who can do coating for individual orders? I

I remember when titanium nitride, and various other coatings was a big thing. The big selling point was that the coatings were an Rc of somewhere near 80, and folks thought "Wow! An edge will last forever!" What most didn't consider was that eventually any blade is going to need sharpening, and since the TiN (or whatever) coating was only a couple of thousandths thick, and as soon as you shaprened the blade, the coating was gone and your were back to the Rc of whatever steel was used for the cutting edge. The coatings are still applicable if you just want the "Wow Factor", but most makers realized that over the long term it really wasn't adding anything to their blades. More so, it was a knife "fad", that, like most fads, was here today and gone tomorrow.

I do realize coating won't improve edge holding :)
Just on carbon steel blades that i have, namely M2 from BM that i wanna recoat, it's original coating is pretty messed up. BT2, so you know how easy it's to scratch.
I figure new coating like Boron Carbide or Tungsten DLC would do nicely, for both, protect the blade from the elements and improve looks. I don't really expose my knives to harsh envs for long time or keep then dirty, but still.

Anyway, I'm not a maker and I can't apply hitech coating myself. I was just looking for a place like bodycote used ot be. I send my blade, they coat it with BC or something better and send it back to me.
