Aftermarket scales transform the mini griptilian

I've had three or four mini grips over the last few years and never really gelled with any of them.

However recently was able to come across this one with KSF aftermarket scales. Changes up the feel of this knife entirely.

It was always a very compact knife potentially too small for a work knife, but it's great as a compact modern EDC.

I use to compare the mini grip with my Delica but I feel the Delica is a bigger knife in comparison and the mini is closer in comparison to a Spyderco Native. What's old for me is new again!

Scales make all the difference in the world in full size Grips, too! I never liked the cheap feeling, light plastic scales on Grips, but I got some G10 after market scales and WOW!! Now I love my 550HG!

Damn those look amazing, if it isn't too much hassle could you post a pic of the knife spine.

I'm thinking about getting a full size now with either some Wilkins or AWT scales.

Here's some Native vs Mini Grip shots for fun.

I've got AWTs on a full sized grip. They're so good. Makes the knife feel amazing. Perfect fitment and extremely solid. I would recommend them to anyone interested in them. Can't go wrong.

You know what the awt's remind me of? I had an old BM Pinnacle 750 and the AWT scales remind me of that old BM Pinnacle.

Can't say I've ever been interested in picking up a grip... until now that is! Looks great!

I think your Mini Grip looks amazing, man. Crazy how much these aftermarket scales change the knife.

Treat yourself to one of the 55x-1 series with factory g10 scales if you get the chance. Same vibe but with a fantastic steel. Also, take a look at Death of All Things' (DOAT) aftermarket scales...they're called Death Grips. He's one of bladeforums' own to boot. Outstanding work and product, imo.

Thanks Minge, to be honest after trying alot of the exotic stuff I've realized that Elmax and S35v is about as super steel as I'm willing to go relative to time to upkeep a steel.
still a good weight. thanks!

Looks good. I've been thinking of replacing the scales on my full size Grip for a long time.I might need to look at the makers over on the Benchmade forum. I'm not crazy for the colors KSF has for the full size.

If you go custom scale check out Steve Ketchen on the forum. I had one of his thunder strike Kevlar manix xl's. Great good scale maker! If it was a Manix 2, I'd have kept it.

+1 on the concept of aftermarket scales transforming the mini grip. For me, you get the biggest transformation with scales that don't mimic the factory scales, such as the Wilkins and AWT. The factory mini grip scales taper down too much for my tastes toward the pinkie finger end of the scale, so the larger size of the Wilkins/AWT style scales in this area are a major plus in my book.
