Even though the company has cut travel to a minimum due to the economy, I have to go to San Jose, CA on May 11 through the 14th with a late flight home. I'll be working during the day but will have my afternoons free. Probably after 4:00PM.

If anyone has some ideas on where to go and/or what to see (outdoors preferably), I'd appreciat it. I'll have a rental car.

I moved out of there a few years ago, but the outdoors options are everywhere. Hiking and food are the two great things in the area (and actually helped me find my wife out there!).

For food, I'd suggest using jatbar.com to track down what you like.

For hiking and outdoors, the area has an amazing range of ecosystems...from cool redwoods, to desert-like scrub, to hot grassy rolling hills (sometimes all on the same hike).

Note though, that they Bay Area is fairly large, and just getting to some of the parks can take a while (for example, I loved Henry Coe State Park, but it's a little south of San Jose, and from the highway to the park itself is about 1/2 hour of winding roads, so 4:00 is a bit late to start out towards there). So if you have an idea about where exactly you'd be starting from at 4:00, it could make a big difference in your options.

Give Mtnfolk Mike a PM. He lives in the area.

you rang...:)

drop me a line man... Santa Cruz is only about 45 minutes away from S.J.... there are also a bunch other BF folks in the bay area...:D

as s002cjs said, there are quite a few places to explore in and around the bay area... Henry Coe state park is amazing, especially this time of year, there are tons of trails to explore.. it's the largest state park in Ca, I believe... Castle Rock state park is also another really cool spot.. the park is riddled with sandstone outcroppings varying in size, i do a lot climbing and bouldering there...

S.J. also has a few REI's as well as some cool gun shops and surplus stores.. and you can't forget In-N-Out Burger.. it's a mandatory stop if you're in the area....

if you've never been to Santa Cruz, you need to try and come over this way if possible.. we have a lot of parks/woods to hang in , not to mention it's a cool area...

drop me a line.... allscared@yahoo.com
