Afterthought concerning "Flippers" post...

I personally prefer to use the flipper if the knife has one. Especially on AO knives like my Leek and Spec Bump.

But I have seen many people on this forum say that they prefer to use the thumbstuds on their Leek. And some very popular and classic AO knives such as the Random Task don't have a flipper at all.

So some people do like to use the studs, which is why they are still included (forgetting about cases like the Leek or Spec Bump where the studs have another function). It gives people options and we can all use the one we prefer. That is all I was saying. Sorry if my wording was unclear.

I have no problem if a company wants to appeal to the mass market. That's how one succeeds in business, but if I'm getting cheaper materials I want one of two things:

1. A reduction in prices

or

2. A clear demarkation of what is a "premium" product and and what is the basic product. (think BM's different classes)

SpyderJon - The key statement you've made here is point #2, and I couldn't agree more. Forgive me for not making my rant clearer than it was, as I meant to touch on the fact that they seem to be "taking advantage" of people who haven't noticed the switch and still think they're at the same quality level. Instead, they're stooping to a bargain-bin type sales strategy. As opposed to Kershaw, who can label, produce and sell a great knife with quality materials for an affordable price as well. This strategy gains the public's favor as well as us knife enthusiast's.

Good points... thanks,
Ryan

So you can manipulate a M-21's thumbstuds to open the knife, easily?

Lol

You are really special.:jerkit:

I have an M18-02 which is the same blade / stud as the M-21 except a slightly different handle design. The stud doesn't cause me problems when I use it. You push out away from the handle more than on some knives on the first part of the open, but it's not difficult to do.

True, i just found it automatically so tight to use, i imho, would assume to just use the flipper.

I mean them studs are worse thena nail nick.

However if you can do it, flick away.
