In Re: the thumnail posted above, I don't see the "Personal", "Fisherman", or "Caper" on the usual retail sites. Are they discontinued models? If so, is there a source for any?

Actually there is also one similar to the one that Cabelas has on the Buck website listed as a caper but it has a guthook(???). I have seen a few pictures of the older caper on this forum but never had seen anyone mention the newer ones. I'll try to post a picture of the ones o the Buck website, but lately I've had issues with photobucket.

I couldnt get the pictures off the Buck website but was able to get the same knives pictures from a differant site. Buck list these as caping knives. Differant from the old capers. My question was does any one have one of these and if so have you used it.

I think a person really needs to understand the difference in caping and skinning. If I actually did caping, this would or might be a good knife with the S30V, which the near same shape mini-mentor doesn't have. Caping is very exacting and tedious so this small thin blade would probably be better.

Now if we are talking just skinning - not.

Here is a link to Cabellas tut on caping, which is about as good as I have seen, without a whole lot of searching.

My impression since I don't do caping, the 110 is still a better choice for working a deer. Sorry,,,deer season is close so my thoughts go there.

For other cutting duties, this little S30V caper might be just fine. I could see it doing light duty in the kitchen.

Oh,,,the pics Trax put up fall more under skinners, than capers. Just my opinion .....

One more thought. Capers are more drop point or modified clip. Skinners are clips. Yeah, different meanings to different people so it all gets back to personal preference. I have tried clips and drops in my deer doins and drops or modified clips just don't work for me. sorry for the drift.

I used the AG 110 last year on deer. The only issue I had was cleaning all the gunk out of all the crevices.

Cleaning the gunk..... As we quarter up a deer and drop the good parts into an ice chest, the knives we were using go in there last.

Back at camp, one of the dishwashing brushes, soap and hot water cleans them right up. After a good soap brushing, I put them in the sink and run hot water over them as hot as I can get it for a minute or two. Blow/shake the water out, dry it off and the heated up knife will go ahead and dry its self.

Doesn't take much more effort than cleaning a fixed blade. I guess I been doing it so long it doesn't seem like any difference. If the knife should lay around a while and dry out with gunk still on it, just soak it in the soapy dishwater for a while before brushing. Again, same difference for fixed or folder.

Some fixed blades I toss into the dishwasher, like the Mentors. Don't recall having run a 110 through the dishwasher but doubt it would hurt it.

If needed, a drop of light oil on the 110's pivot points. Thats usually just so my one handed opening is a tad easier.

I wouldnt run my ag through the dishwasher, its stag. Maybe I'm just new since it was my first deer last year. I got blood and fat in the crevics all around the pivot pin and it was a pain trying to get clean before putting it in my sheath. The only water I had was from my drinking bottle so that is what I had to use.

ahhhhh,,,one of the nice AG Stags.... Did it grip any better while cleaning your deer?

I dont know if it grip any better (I'm a novice at deer hunting) but it sure cut nice and look nice while doing it. It just really feels good in the hand. It was a present from my wife and kids a couple of years ago. I've used it on alot of squirrels though and it does well on them.My user is the one in the middle.
