AG Russel Sting update

Got my order in! I had one of the originals and a Parker copy...both are long gone, but this one I'll hang onto to!:D

it'll be nice to have a utilitarian version to accompany to the one i purchased back in '77 with ivory micarta grips and my initials-might get acouple this time.

I got my pre-order in, and now I wish I ordered two. Maybe I should, anyway. Nobody who decides to sell one will have a problem moving it.

I would like to see a pic of the sheath. Cordura and nylon doesn't sound very good to me, but I'll keep an open mind.

Mckgreg...AWESOME!
:droolingwithenvy:

Here's another from '77 (the year I got married)

What the Fu$K is up with that "Samurai Steel" crap?

"The Sting™ begins life as an ordinary blank of 1050 carbon steel, similar to the alloy used in traditional Samurai swords, which is first hot forged and then precision ground into final shape." :jerkit:

The last time I looked, my Muramasa didn't have 1050 stamped on the side of it...

Seriously, you have a Masamune? Does it say, "Made in Japan"?

I bought one back in the mid-70s, but...the handle is too small and too smooth to provide a safe grip (at least for my hand). On the other hand, I like the elegance of the design too much to get rid of it.

I have several of the originals, and one old copy that's really junk, but it goes good withthe oroginals. Have one of the 8" that was butchered by a bad sharpener (hollowed out near the handle, maybe because its a forged blade?). I want two of these: one for the box in the closet and the other for my everyday letter opener???? Anyway, I would love a KYDEX for one of my originals witha worn out sheath. Where can I get a KYDEX for one? Thanks.

I don't think it will be that hard to remove the black coating from the knife. :) I am thinking of one with a black handle, and silver blade. Or maybe a half black, half silver, right down the middle. :)

Blades

Looks like he already has one on the shelf for the sting. I suppose it'll fit the new ones too. I plan on giving him a holler. Thanks a ton.

I was very fortunate to get hold of two of the originals over the years. The first one was an A1 model I picked up for 40 bucks at a gun show. The dealer said it was a gerber, but when I saw the AG Russel on it the deal was done. The other is a walnut handle insert purchased for 10 bucks at a flea market. I just ordered two of the new ones. I wonder how much my old ones will be devalued as a collectors item now that the new ones are available? LOL.

Hey Guys....

Ok here are my CRKT AG. Sting prototype sheaths..

crktsting.jpg

The CRKT Sting Concealex sheath is set up for IWB carry, as well as OWB carry sandwiched between the pant and belt. Comes with my standard G-clip as well as dedicated closed 1.75" belt loop for belt carry, vertical, horizontal, Canted and inverted carry. G-clip will also do all of the above.

This sheath allows for full and proper purchase on the knife during the draw, there is nothing in the way to impede the draw.

Sheath will ride high and tight to the body during IWB carry.

Also carrys comfortably in Mercop's Mercharness , both Strong Arm and Cross Draw. An Excellent way to carry the CRKT Sting or any kydex sheathed small to mid sized knife.

Comparison picture between the CRKT Sting and my vintage 1977 era Sting.

My Impressions of the CRKT Sting.

Both knives are Very well made in my opinion.. since I only got the knife, I have not tested it's edge, other than cutting paper, however knife is very sharp.

The CRKT Sting nearly fits my Vintage Sting sheath, so this tells me that they are Very,,Very close in size and thickness. The CRKT seems to be just a hair thicker according to my vintage sheath.

Over all I'm impressed with the quality and workmanship. Anyone who has an original Sting needs this classic design in their collection.

Those of you who weren't even thought of or still too young to play with knives and missed the late 70's run of Stings... Nows your change to grab like I said before an absolute Classic design by AG.

Ok,, Now waiting for the Sting II :)

Nice job Eric.:) Your sheaths always compliment the knife: And, are always
of better quality than those shipped with the knife.

Too many manufacturers cut their prices for their quality blades, by providing crappy sheaths.
