Ok,

I am a little curious if they still use mules or donkeys for Surface Mail in Arkansas.

Please read this (somewhat edited) email correspondence between me and an AG Russell representative:

RE: A. G. Russell Knives Order xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

Your order (invoice number xxxxxxxxx) shipped out on the 9th of November
via Surface Mail. We have to give Surface Mail about 60-90 days to arrive
to you.

Thank You,

Hi there.

I placed an order for 2 AG Russell woodswalkers, with a
kydex sheath.

Order xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

At november the 8th, about $65 has been withdrawn from my
VISA, of which approximately $30 must have consisted of
shipping costs.

However, in spite of this rather ominous shipping rate, I
have yet to recieve my merchandise.

Almost a month has passed and the clock is still ticking.

Thanks in advance and merry christmas.

Henrik Nilsson"

Can this be for real? 60 to 90 days? I mean, I sent for a flashlight from KRSPRODUCTS.COM in CA, it cost me only $3 and I recieved it within a week.

I live in Stockholm city, Sweden and it is not a very desolate place. Although I have been living far up north, in Lapland in a small village in the middle of nowhere. even then, packages from the US have never taken more than 2-3 weeks to reach me.

Anyone know the reason for such long delivery time?

I sent one to a guy in Switzerland in the late summer and it took over a month so it's possible. Mike

Yeah, USPS says (on their web site too) that it could take very long. IMO they say that just in case it happens. I have had several packages from the US sent with the same shipping method and it took from 3 days (yes, unbeliveble) to 3 weeks max to get here in Paris. Just wait and see. Don't forget that the mail goes slower than usual these days.

I can believe $30.00 for postage because I sent two very light knives in one package to Sweden and it cost Me $23.00.It only took 9 days to get there, which is exactly how long one took to get from Pgh.Pa. to California. Many Dealers and Merchants state in Their ads 4 to 6 weeks shipping within the U.S. so I wouldn't be suprised if it takes at least that long to get to You in Sweden.By the way,A.G.Russell is a Good Man to deal with.Just My 2 cents .tom.:)

In my informed experience, if Mr. Russell says it, you can take it to the bank. He will do at least as much as he says he will, often more. International shipping, always an unknown, may be even trickier since 9-11.I am also sure that if you are not satisfied with the done deal, he will refund your money. He is a man of integrity I have dealt with many times.:D :D

I mailed a 25 pound or so parcel to Belgium by economy surface parcel post, and they said it would be about 30 days. I think it arrived in a week or a week in a half.

I think the 30-90 days is just so you dont keep calling them on the phone asking them why hasnt it arrived, etc. It should probably arrive sooner.

Hey Henrik...

Although 60-90 days is a long time,,some of the things I send to Europe are taking about 20-30 days...

This of course is because it goes from my house to North West Territories by pickup, from there is goes to the Yukon by dog sled, and from there to Europe by an Eskimo in a leaky seal skin kayak..

After that Canada's tracking system doesn't work...:)

I do not know about the time, but I do know that AlaChactaw wrote about A.G. is dead on target.

Henrik: I will get you an answer in about 24 hours (maybe less) Seems somewhat long to me but I do not know how it was shipped. The cost of shipping and handling seems high also but again, I do not know how you asked that it be shipped. If it was UPS or FedX we can trace it. Tomorrow.

A. G.

AG, tried to email you. Did you receive the large flat package I sent you? Just want to make sure it got there. Email me.
Dave

A. G.'s reply:

Yes we still use mules, just like you use raindeer. The cost of shipping a few onces of knives and sheaths to Sweden was indeed almost $30. And the normal time for surface mail to Sweden is 30-90 days. That means that it seldom arrives before 30 days is up and rarely arrives later than 90 days. The time is not used up in the state of Arkansas, but in the slow boat that has to take the mail to Europe.

The price of living in the country of your choice.

The post office offers Global Express. This service gets there in 3-4 business days (many times less).

For the package you are talking about, these are the approximate rates for several countries I've used this service for:

England $22.00
Japan $18.00
Hong Kong $19.50
Malaysia $18.50
Germany $21.00
Canada $19.00
Brazil $22.00
France $22.50
Austria $23.00
Switzerland $21.00
Russia $25.00

Also, it is automatically insured for up to $500 and you can track your package on the Internet. I have been using this service for over 2 years. I have never had a package lost or stolen using this service. The same cannot be said for USPS Surface, FedEx and UPS.

Im sure surface takes 30 days, especially this time of year.

AG if your paying $30 for surface, you should look into Global Express. It will get it there quicker for less money.

Thanks Les,

Is there anybody that can explain why the post office would charge the same for surface mail with 30 plus day delivery and for Golbal Express with 3-4 day delivery?

I will check my post office Monday and find out why we are getting the service we are.

A. G.

not A.G.
My sister sends a check from the other side of Denver every month. We live on the west side, she on the East. (About 30 miles) She sent a check November 13th which still hasn't arrived.
Overseas stuff has got to be slowed down.
John

Thank you, Mr Russell, for taking care of your customers. And thanks to all you others for your replies.

I did not know that my package actually would be delivered by boat across the ocean. And increased security measures since 9-11 will probaly take its toll on delivery swiftness. So I guess i will take a while longer than I am used to.

But, still, it is a lot of money for a lot of waiting. I think Les Robertson came up with a good idea there, with Global Express.

Be well and take care.

Henrik

Global Express or EMS will not necessarily get there fast either. I routinely ship EMS or Global overseas and have seen it take as long as 16+ days to get to Europe, then a couple of days in customs on both ends.

AG,

My experience has shown me that not all postal employees are not created equal.

Many have no experience with Global Express, therefore it does not come to mind.

Cumberland, if it is taking the post office 16 days to get a package to Europe. It's time to talk with the post master there. You can go back and track it with the number on the form. You can find out where the hold up is/was.

I have run into the same situation Les has. At post office near my employer it is no problem. The first time I tried to use Global Express at the P.O. near my house, the first person I talked to did not know it existed.
