AG Russell Acies

Good to hear it from you AG. I know $375 is a lot to pay for a production knife and I'm surprised at all the hate towards the Acies because of it considering it's made of all premium materials.
Anybody have a link to a long term EDC review to see how it's held up? I'd be curious to see it.

Hate?

Just because someone finds fault with this or any other knife most certainly doesn't equate with hate.

Maybe just a touch too much kissing up don't you thinkl?

No. There's been quite a bit of hate. From the day it was announced it's been clouded with complaints of it's resemblance to the Sebenza and the price. Search the forum for "Acies" and there's been a lot of complaints.
Kissing up? No. Trying to be logical, yes.

ABA is right, the printer friendly version of one of those early threads is seven "pages" long and prints out, double-sided, at about a quarter inch thick. It was full of irrational trolling, blatant mis-statements and very subjective opinions masquerading as "facts."

My only concern about this knife is whether I'm going to get comfortable with its righthandedness. :(

Mike, try contacting me by email: newellj at gmail dot com?

Nice review swmp4l. I've been thinking about an Acies for awhile now. Your likes/dislikes list along with the close up photos is very informative. Impressive edge finish also. Thank you.
Being a light weight user (and I might hesitate to use an edge that nice - unless I knew I could sharpen it the same way again) I can't offer much wisdom on blade chipping. As you know, it has a lot to do with the steel, grind, heat treat, and usage so I'll just throw this out there - I've seen a couple of high end makers (of quality knives) discuss chipping and one thing they both mentioned was that higher lateral forces (pushing more sideways on the edge as opposed to going edge on) will tend to chip blades more. Don't know if this is what's happening to you or if it even would make a difference. My simplistic two bits.

Mr. Russell I'm glad to see you have seen and commented here.

Wondering if you have any comments on the zdp chipping or any other parts of the review or thread?

Thanks Thomas and A.G. for clearing everything up. The more I look and hear about his knife the more I like it.

Hi A_Blade_Afficionado -

I can take pictures of mine if you like - I have been carrying it most of the time since mid-Feb of this year when I received it.

I have used it many times - but not in a hard-use way.

My example still looks new - the blade has no staining, and has never chipped or otherwise been damaged by my use (normal knife use, i.e. cutting.)

The handles still look great, the only marks on them are a little ding from me dropping the knife in a parking lot, and one rub from me accidentally putting a Leek in the same pocket with the Acies.

The knife was a little sticky to unlock when it was brand new, but now it unlocks smoothly, and the action is truly the smoothest of any knife I own.

The clip is great - I was a little concerned about the shiny finish, just because that would show up when I had the knife in my office, but that has not been a problem and the clip is designed so that it slides easily into your pocket and grabs the edge of your pocket nicely without having to make a concerted effort to get the pocket fabric between the clip and the scale.

Yes, it is a spendy knife, but it has been worth every penny to me and I have never regretted buying the knife.

I would add that the Acies is the knife that my wife says is her favorite of all the knives I own and carry - she likes the feel of it along with it's natural beauty.

If I lost this one (heaven forbid), I would order another immediately.

best regards -

I have and do use the Acies often, I have cut antler, exotic wood, tree branches, plastic, lots of cardboard, lots of paper. I have dulled it but have not managed to chip it. (haven't tried).

I am always happy to see my knives on BF, the knives have always been treated well.

One of my friends owns one and I got to play with it for an hour or so. Never having heard of it, yet loving Ti framelocks, it was a pleasure to hold and in testing cuts did very well. With a nice looking drop point blade and great pocket clip I think it's a winner with a great design.
