Just a few pics of my Cowboy model. Awesome folder. Fit and finish are awesome. I plan on getting the smaller one also. Great knife and good price.

I got a Rancher from A G Russell when they were first listed on his website. This is the best made knife I have owned at this price. The fit and finish is just about perfect and I say that rarely. The spring tension is just right and the edge is very good with excellent ground/profile/geometry. Plus, it is highly finished inside as well. I just ordered the Curved Jack Wharncliffe and hope it is as well made as the Rancher.

Nice knife, got to handle it at BLADE. Definitely like the the blade shape more than on my Case Sodbuster. Good seeing you at BLADE too.

Nice pics, Caine. Can't help but fear you might get dinged here in Traditional, for the 'tactical lanyard & skull' embellishment though. I'm just kidding ;) ; it does look good in the all-black theme, especially.

I didn't know too much about the 8Cr13MoV steel before but, after having been playing around with seeing how sharp it can be made (VERY), I'm really liking it. It's good to hear that my first impressions about these knives, regarding F/F & blade pull/tension, weren't a fluke.

Shhh, if you don't say anything maybe the moderators won't see it...

I got both a delrin Rancher and Cowboy. The Cowboy FF was great, but the shield on the Rancher was a bit off. It will cost me nearly the knife price to return it from Japan, so I'll just keep it. I do like them both, though.

Nice! It's bigger and thicker than I thought it would be. I guess reading the stats, it makes sense, but on A. G.'s site, it is hard to get a feel for the size based on just the visuals. Looks like I'll have to check those out when I get down to A. G.'s "Knife Event" at the end of next month.

Return it the cheapest way and we will pay the cost of return and reshipment

Gentlemen, please take this discussion to email or PM.
Though I am very appreciative of the excellent manner in which the matter is being handled, this forum is not the place to get into customer service issues. Thank you both.

That's a great looking knife caine,thanks for the photos. A. G. Russell,yep got a lot of class!:thumbup::D

A.G.,

These are great looking but I have a question: Why design a hard-work knife as a slipjoint?

Slipjoints worked fine as hard workers for many years. Locks can fail, careful users don't need them.

Well said. I have not one, but two 80's Gerber L.S.T.s in the yellow and burgundy micarta that I LOVED using and BOTH of the spring rods that hold the tension of the lockbacks FELL OUT. Too expensive to professionaly fix.
Took a chance on a simple custom traditional design slippie that I found here, with modern materials (D2 blade and G-10 scales), and now I'm a believer.
But from what I just read here on this thread, A.G. Russell will be getting some my money too eventually.

+1

When I received the Cowboy models I ordered, I found myself instinctively trying to 'unlock' the blade when I went to close it. In spite of the fact it's a slip-joint, it feels very solid when open. I have no worries at all about the blade accidentally closing, when PROPERLY handled. I am a fan of the Folding Hunter patterns, such as Case's 6165/6265, and in terms of how they feel in hand, I sort of associate this knife with those very solid, old-school, non-locking, hard-working knives.

I got the Yellow Cowboy a few months ago. F+F is fantastic.
VERY Sharp from factory, SNAPS open + closed, and Great Ergo's.
Forced my old Case Soddie into retirement.
Only problem I had was the sharp machined edge at the base of the blade (when closed), so I rounded that edge and now it's perfect.
