AG's customer service is unmatched.

AG Russell Company Customer service needs to be improved. They don't own up to their mistakes until you challenge them, and getting them to ship out your products takes a couple of phone calls to get it done. Depending on how my next shipment goes in terms of quality of product, I may not buy from them anymore.

AG is one of the best in my mind. Great catalog and a stand up man. He's the first place I go to if I'm ordering online.

They have excellent customer service, but they started having a lot (if not most) of their name-branded knives made cheaply in China several years back, and the quality I've experienced has been bad. I would not recommend any knife of theirs that's marked as "made in China."

Edit: the ones I've tried recently include the Dozier Trapper flipper, the Skorpion, the Cowboy lockback, and a couple others that I can't remember. All have had issues.

I was skeptical at first also, waiting for years to try one. In the meantime I read many, many positive and even glowing reviews of AG's Chinese imports.

So I finally ordered one, and the quality is wonderful. I absolutely recommend this knife.

Sorry to hear that. Wife ordered from them over the holidays, and I recently ordered a few items from their annual sale catalog. There were no problems with either.

Let's see. One post. Attacks an icon of the knife world. Hmmm.

I bought one of AG's CHINA knives - the Texas Ranger lock-back. First CHINA knife I have from him. The quality was superb.

Great customer service.

I'd buy from them any time.

I have one of their large sodbuster, made in China. The fit and finish is fantastic. Especially for the price. Head and shoulders above several much pricier US made slipjoints I have bought. No gaps. Great machining. Delivered sharp! I have knives 2 times as expensive that I could read through the massive gaps.

I can agree that China has a bad rep for many of their products not being up to par, but it all depends on what you're buying from them. After all, it appears that 80 percent of products here in the US is from China, the Country that is the king of making our everyday goods here in the US. Check your shoes, says made in China, Check your Clothes, says made in China, Go to Walmart, everything there is made in China, and among many other things. Knife is no exception, it all depends on your brand of maker like AG Russell if they have done their due diligence of personally going there an source out the best knife makers there in China or did they just do the lazy way and phone contact some knife manufacturers there in China and call it a day sort of speak. If AG Russel actually went to China and picked out the best one, then just because it says made in China does not mean it's bad.

Judge the product for what it is and not who the maker is...

I should have been clearer: I'm judging the quality and consistency of whoever their specific Chinese manufacturer is, as well as A.G. Russell's oversight of that manufacturer. The fact that the manufacturer is based in China is completely incidental. I own knives by Kizer, Reate, and Sanrenmu, and love them. I'm a huge proponent of Chinese manufacturers that make great knives.

It's just that in my experience A.G. Russell's Chinese-made ones have had problems. However, based on some of the experiences of people in this thread, I am willing to give them another chance! A.G. Russell has been very good to me since I switched from the horrific Bud-K catalog in elementary school over to the A.G. Russell one.

I can appreciate your second feedback and it makes sense. Now if I can only get AG Russell to better their customer service I will personally keep on buying knives from them. So far my first purchase was not a good experience, so I have decided to give them another try. Product is not here yet, but in a few days when it arrives, I will have more to say once is shows up to judge the quality.

I just ordered a nice Canal St. special edition from him not made in China but got to my door a day sooner than it was scheduled . So that part was good. And I had a mistake in a order a year ago and customer service was very helpful . Great company.

The AGR Co., along with Busse Combat Group, has the best warranty in the business. Bar none.

This thread made me realize I'd never owned an A.G. Russell knife, so I went and ordered one. It came in today.

I got the small Dozier Trapper with flipper in cocobolo scales and for the most part I'm mildly impressed. It's certainly on par with China manufactured Kershaws or Spydercos...and therein lies part of the problem. At ~$80 delivered the knife seems a little pricey compared to the competition. Quality seems a little better than the SanRenMu level competition though. I like the inclusion of deep carry and standard clip...I wish all manufacturers did that!

I'm a little disappointed in the wood, the picture online made the cocobolo look very vibrant variegated but mine is just kind of Meh. I guess that's luck of the draw with a scale material made by Mother Nature.

All in all, I'm happy to have this knife. I'm going to flip the clip to tip-up, lube up the pivot and see how it carries for a few days. If this works out I may be back to pick up a Skorpion (although there are lots of complaints about Skorpion fit and finish problems on the Intertubes...gladly, my Dozier has none of those issues).

Many years ago I bought a fixed blade from AG Russell and wasn't happy with the edge on it. I contacted them about the issue and was instructed to send it back and it would be taken care of.

So I did.

A couple of weeks later the knife was returned to me with a Styrofoam packing peanut that had several. very clean slices in it. Also included was a note stating "sharpened and checked it. " Signed by Mr Russell himself.

Can't get any better customer service than that.

I have been to their store and seen their whole line and agree.

I have four of AG's Chinese-made traditionals as well as several of his other knives and all of them are very well made. As far as dealing with their customer service department is concerned, I have only had one occasion to do that and they were very courteous to deal with.
