AG Russell FeatherLite this knife comes in two steels, AUS 8 hardened to 57-59 RC and ATS 34 hardened to 60-61 RC both hollow ground. It is also available in two different blade profiles a Clip point and AG’s General Purpose blade.
Total length 7“
Blade length 3 1/8”
Weight 1.5 OZ
Handle Zytel
Just under 4” closed
I picked up the General Purpose in AUS8. I really like this knife. There is no pocket clip this is a pocket knife slim light weight and narrow. I’m amazed at how comfortable it rides in the bottom of my front pocket wile still being large enough to feel good in the hand. The blade came very sharp, one of the best factory edges I’ve seen, and the hollow ground blade is ground eyeball dead even. Fit and finish is fantastic. The lock is a lock back witch has a button on the front of the lock bar that you pull or push up on to unlock. It is different than what I’m use to doing to unlock but is very easy to do. It also opens very easily with the oval hole in the blade. I got this knife as a gift for someone along with another knife and am going to let him pick the one he wants. I’m hoping he doesn’t pick the FeatherLite because I want it for myself. :)

The A G Russell Feartherlite is my favorite clipless knife that I own. I am retired and at the house a good part of the time it rides in my sweats or sweats shorts. I don't even knows it there until I need it. Mine is the general purpose blade with ATS34 steel. Holds a great edge and the fit and finish is excellent. I cannot say enough nice things about this knife. Sharpening on a sharpmaker is easy because of the great edge profile (thin). You should keep one for yourself.

That is a knife I've never even really paid any attention to until this thread. A.G. comes up with some really good designs thats for sure.

I just bought one of the SeaMasters from him. I don't know why. I just liked it is all. Going to have to bite the bullet come bill time with the MasterCard but otherwise I'm looking forward to it. :D

Nice little knife this feather lite. I'm going to have to look closer at that ATS34 model.

Str I’d recommend one of these highly. I’m so impressed with it I felt the need to write this little review without doing any scientifical type testing on it. :) Tossed in a pocket you don’t even know it is there, and even though it is a slim and narrow knife it fits my hand very well and is a joy to cut with. You’re right on about AG designing some real winners. Hey AG how about a run of these in D2? I guess I should have listed a link in my 1st post for this great knife.

RKH the other knives he can choose from are totally different knives, but yeah if he picks the FeatherLite I see myself ordering another for myself. I’ve been carrying this one just to test it out for him.
:)

It is the best one hand folder without a clip! I have 2 and carry one of them especially when I am wearing pants with zip up pockets because I dont want to mess up the clip or zipper by using a clip on folder. I just got a NIB one with ATS 34 and have not used it yet. I really like this folder and the locking system is solid too. This knife would be tough to close by accident. If you dont have one you need to get one. THANKS A G Russell for a nice knife for the pocket. Kevin:thumbup:

It is one of my favorites. I have a small lanyard tied to it so that the knot sticks our of my pocket. Keeps the knife upright and easy to get too. Mine is AUS8 with the utility blade. It has served well from garden chores, to hunting trips, to sailboat racing. Every road trip I go on and when I have to select which knives to carry this one is always picked. It is a heck of a bargain. While my current tastes run traditional, this baby is a winner.

I love mine. I just wish they made one of the ones with a 2 1/2 inch blade with an FRN handle. They have one in that length with a titanium handle.

Kevin I agree let us know if you find you notice a large difference between the steels.
Dantzk that is a great review. I don’t even know what the warrantee on these is but it is good to read it is one of the best.
Pinetree, my tastes are also mainly traditional, and I also really like this one hander.
Tom I didn’t see the TI handle one before. WOW!

I didn't see any Ti ones at the AGR site. They do have some stainless steel ones. I have been told that the original design of this knife was in stainless and came from Pat Crawford. The AGR FRN and "rucarta" versions are variants and his stainless appears to be a direct copy of the Crawford one. Crawford sells custom versions at www.crawfordknives.com He has different steels and blade shapes, most for under $500.

So it's happened again!

I'd seen that knife in the A.G. Russell catalog for years...now after reading this thread, I
bought one. A clip point in ATS-34.

I usually edc a BM530. Really looking forward to seeing how the Russell knife compares.
I have a sneaking suspicion that it will compare very favorably.

Darn it I wish I'd seen that Pen knife it would have been a great ad on to my order. Rifon2 I think you are going to wish you had ordered it years ago when you first saw it. :) LOL Let us know how you like it after it arrives.

I've had the ATS34 version for a couple of years. It's one the best knives in its two price points.

The finger index is one of the best I've held. Compact and super secure. I wish more finger indexes were like that. Most add too much bulk to the knife.

Compact, light, slim; it pocket carries comfortably and could be easily forgotten.

Two minor quibbles. I want a flat ground version. And an adjustable pivot.

AG is doing a couple of variations on the AG Russell. There should be a larger version with a metal handle and he's got a third blade shape in the works for the FRN handle.

Phatch, very interesting links. I tend to disagree with most on them. The FeatherLite any larger just wouldn’t be a FeatherLite and as comfortably pocketable as it is. I think the .5” smaller is an interesting idea but truthfully I think the current version has hit the sweet spot for size. It disappears in the pocket and yet feels great in the hand.

This is my first post.

I have a AG Russell FeatherLite with a General Purpose blade in AUS8. It is my favorite knife. It has a large blade for such a thin little knife. It also has the advantage of not looking too "scary" so I can use it without freaking people out. Sometimes I need a knife that is a little smaller, I just wish they made one shrunk down to a 1 7/8 inch blade.

Welcome Grey Mullet. I think the A G featherlite is hard to beat. I have been very happy with mine in ATS34 steel. I am thinking about ordering another one to have as backup. This knife is so handy and is so light weight.

I bought one very recently, clip point ATS-34, and think it's absolutely terrific.

In fact, I've ordered another.

Grey Mullet, welcome To Bladeforums. I too really like this knife and since the guy I bought it for prefers slipjoints it is now mine. :)
Take a look at the links Tom Sanders posted for a shorter knife I think they look like a great deal. As for an advantage of AUS 8 the most obvious is it costs a little less. It is also probably a little more corrosion resistant, and will be a little easier to resharpen. Both AUS 8 and the ATS 34 are very good steels and it would probably be difficult to notice much of a difference between the two.
RKH and rifon I couldn’t agree more. This knife is a real steal at the price.
