AG Russell knives cowboy

Let me start out by saying I have the deepest respect and admiration for Mr. Russell. That being said though I got it today and well......I was underwhelmed to be honest. The Rucarta was dull the blade had dull spots and razor sharp spots. The scales were of uneven thickness. It's a let down and I know it is of foreign manufacture but, after all I have read and heard I was just expecting more ya know?

Get in touch with AGR and let them know you're hoping for better. They'll make it right, as their guarantee is pretty much bullet-proof. Part of the reputation that a maker or vendor earns, is in how well they follow up on these things. Give them a chance to prove it; I'm betting they will.

Sorry to hear you are not happy, I would contact AG and I'm sure he will make it right by replacing or refunding. That said, I'm surprised that you got a lemon and that you are unhappy. I have "many" sodbusters and I think the AG's have some of the better fit and finish of all of them. The sodbuster pattern is meant to be used so I would take that in to consideration when assessing the knife. As long as there are no major defects preventing functionality, I would consider it ready to use and put it in your pocket. All the best and hope you find a solution that makes you happy.

Umm, it's plastic. It kind of doesn't shine, though I suppose you could wax it.

Anybody have any suggestions or advice on how to bring out the shine in rucarta?

I've noticed that a metal polish like Simichrome or Flitz can sometimes bring a little more gloss to micarta/Rucarta or polished G10. Might try a small spot first, with a clean rag; it won't take much of the polish to do it. I seem to recall noticing this after polishing & buffing a blade or bolsters with some Simichrome, and then just casually rubbing the handles with the same cloth.

And aside from that, Frank's suggestion to use wax might add a little shine as well. Might be as simple as some neutral shoe polish; I've used it a little on wood and stag, and it adds at least a little more shine, though it needs refreshing from time to time.

I use these for gloss. WD40, paste wax or mineral oil.
If you carry and use that knife, it gets its own polish.

I am enjoying my knife more and more with each use. It's a handy size and it's not obtrusive in the pocket.

I had a large. Lovely. Well built.

If the micarta is dull, a loaded strop will shine it back up.

Mine was sharp.

Grest pull, and no half stop.

I keep eyeballing the wood scaled ones.
