AG Russell "Woodswalker" qickie review

Many of the comments have been praising the kydex sheath, so I wanted to counter with a huge Thumbs-Up for the leather pocket sheath that's available for $5 less.

So $20 for a Japanese AUS8 knife with nice durable handles and a quality leather sheath? Hard to beat it for simple value.

Aye, the leather pocket sheath is superb for the price. It's also hilarious to watch the expression on the Waffle House waitress's face when I calmly extract a fixed blade from my pocket and go to cutting up my waffle with it.

Nice review. I've used a Woodswalker off and on for a few years now and I couldn't agree more; one of the best values out there. Mine came as a gift and originally I was just a little turned off by the paring knife looks and ultra thin blade. I quickly got used to the look and also learned that that thin blade makes it a hunter's scalpel indeed.

Man do I like that Micro-Canadian! I can just feel that puppy in my hand...definitly on my wish list.

Very nice review Jeff H. That is a definitely a bang for the buck, no nonsense knife. Btw can we get a shot of the spine to see how thick the blade is and how its ground? Thanks

God Bless

Don't know about that either but it's a whiz skinning out deer and pigs. Not too small to hang onto and not so big that you cut off your buddies digits with it.

Wow, I didn't know that the WW could handle a hog. That's says quite a bit.

my nephew BEGGED for one of mine.

so i relented and let him have the one that had the Kydex neck rig. he has never stopped wearing it (cept at school) and has carved lots of "spears" for the "wild animals" we go "hunting" for in the creek behind my parents house. I think its a great knife for the younger kids as well as us older folks. Its cheap and reliable and used in the proper setting makes a wonderful tool.

i still have one that i modified with a metal file and did a grooved handle on. great little all arounder. i use them alot around the house for food prep and eating.

More praise for this little knife....

It is my favorite necker. It is so lightweight that I just don't notice it. The kydex sheath is well designed and retains the knife very well. I prefer this knife for necker use over my Gossman PSK, as the Gossman is O1, and I tend to be a sweaty guy.

One thing I discovered is that a small teklock fits this sheath and be used to clip it to the shoulder strap of my Camalback back pack. It also rides well horizontally on my belt.

I like to wear this knife while traveling as it is very handy in its neck sheath. It can be used to open bags of munchies or whatnot.

Awesome little knife! After owning mine for a while, I would pay 3x what I paid for it originally.

Got one last fall and my wife, who on the road 3-5 days a week doen't travel without it:thumbup:

I looked again, but I deleted the spine shot/comparsion with the Mikro. Right at the ricasso, at the spien, it mic's .059", which is a "hair" under 1/16". Under the scales, and using a SS ruler marked with 1/64" increments, it measures 1/16". That's half the thickness of the Gossman PSK pictured. It is flat-ground with a secondary edge bevel but, with its height and thickness ("thinness"), the faces comes down in a pretty low angle so there is lttle to get in the way of what the edge parts. If I get a chance this weekend, I will try to get a comparison shot of the spins of those pictured plus the BRKT Pro-Scalpel.

Great review, Jeff! I've been curious about one too. Thought about picking one up for dedicated kitchen duty (thanks for including your wife's perspective too), but I just ordered a Victorinox instead.
