I cant decide between a rc-3 falkniven f-1 or build a enzo i need a bushcraft blade and i like enzos but theres a god chance it wont come out perfect were as a production knife its a lot les likley to be deformed. So if you were in this pickle what would you choose and you can only choose 1 knife.

Depending on the size of your hands..the RC3 is way smaller than the other 2, the fallkniven's grip is only just slightly larger than the RC3, and the Enzo that I owned was put together before I bought it..I loved the knife..great knife overall, almost perfect. I should never have sold it. Gene

I looked at both of these knives before I settled the rc-3 over f-1. Both are good knives that will not fail you if you do normal bushcraft chores.

1 Batoning wood, neither of these knives are meant for this kind of chore in my opinion, that doesn't mean you can't use them. Rc3 is thick 1095 steel not the best steel, but a compromise between hardness and flexibility. F1 better steel, keeps its sharpness longer than rc3, but maybe too brittle to be batoning in the long run. " thats if you do a lot of it"

RC-3 edges out f1

2 Steel

F1 vg10 wins for most chores

3 design

rc3 fits my hand better, has finger nice finger guard, thumb ridges on spine of blade, glass breaker at the end of butt. F1 thermorun elastomer handle, handle not as good as rc3 imo " this doesn't mean it bad",, finger guard is there but really weak design. Blade width rc3 is larger. In short RC3 is better handle design. I think F1 handle maybe better with chest lever grip.

RC3 wins

4. Price

RC3

Oh the S1 is better than f-1 imo

If you don't own a laminated steel Fallkniven, you owe it to yourself to try the F1. It's a fantastic knife.

Stay sharp,

I'm getting myself an ENZO soon as I snag two of Koyote's blades....so probably in March 09...

Handles are way to small on the F1 and RC-3 to call them bushcraft knives, they get very uncomfortable after extended cutting and carving periods.

That leaves the Enzo, and it's definitely no slouch. Plus scandi's are great and make women more attracted to you.

I have and love the f1, It was the sharpest knife out of the box that I've owned... It's outstanding...I don't know if you want my advice.. But you kind of sound like me.. In that you're not really sure what you like yet..I've narrowed down my choices alot over the years. but it has cost me 1000's of dollars..to get to where I am now.. I would peruse the for sale and trade sections on the forum here and pick out some things you'r curious about at a discount this way you'll be able to experiment with different grinds, and feels.. If I where a man of you age I'd get a mora clipper and an Opinel #8 I'd send them both to siguy and get them both touched up. this will give you an opportunity to play with both a convex, and a scandi grind and see which you prefer. I believe you also have a flat ground sak which is a similar grind to the rat.. Take em out and whittle the snot out of them. see what you like about the different steels the different grinds and the different handle materials before you spend the big bucks.. WHile your at it you should send that ontario to siguy to..He'll make that thing act like a 100 dollar blade.

If you don't want to chance building the Enzo, Ben's has them already completed for more money.

I'm going to buy a bare Enzo blade soon. I've never put a handle on knife but I figure as long as I take my time it won't be that hard. I think I'll enjoy it more knowing that I put it together. I've already bought a beautiful piece of desert ironwood.

As the OP is now up to >300 posts, the reality is over time you will probably own all three. Which ever you decide to get, curiosity will eventually lead you towards the one you didn't get.

Among the RC's, the RC-4 is better than the RC-3 for bushcraft IMO. They have the same handle, but the wider blade causes the handle to fill the hand better. I like the RC-3 as an EDC blade.

You can buy a blank for the F1 and put your own handle on it to fit your hand - here is one I did with a cocobolo handle.

The hardest decisions are the ones when there is no wrong answer. You are looking at several very capable options.
