I'm sure i read something here but searched and didn't find what i'm looking for.I am buying a pilot survival knife (ontario) .I am sure i read something about oil aging. I want it dark and used looking ,sheath and handle.Any help and suggestions much appreciated.

Rubbing oil (mink oil is good for leather but by no means necessary) into the leather will darken it and give it a somewhat used appearance, this coupled with some actual use should give you the desired affect...

You might have done what a friend of mine did. He received his pilot's survival knife when he graduated first in his Ranger class in 1962. After "spending some time" in Vietnam it has the aged look you're trying to achieve. But so does he! :D

HI DISCO, I got mine about three months ago, it came ruff and no color to it, unlike kabar smooth and coated. Well I too wanted it to look like it had some time on it. So I started by just handling it, but after all this time still didn't get that old look. So after reading your post a " light came on". I went and got out some black kiwi shoe polish and some dark brown in a different brand. Put a little brown first, rubbed it in good then took old levi jean scrap and rub, rub, rub til it got smooth then one coat of black just for effect. Rub, rub til most of the black came off then one more layer of brown this time with old toothbrush to get between ribs.....finish like shinning your shoe's with shoebrush. Well it worked for me looks about 15 to 20 years older. Has a nice rich brownish smooth color to it now.
