The postman made my day when I saw the package from Arkansas had been left in my mailbox. Only took 4 days.
The first thing I can say at this point is this is a hell of a lot of knife for the money. If you didn't know what they cost and just picked one up to handle in a shop I think you'd easily guess it was twice as expensive.
The second thing to mention out is how solid it is. It's got real heft. You'd figure that to be case when you read it's got a 3/16" thick blade and all steel boslters and liners, but feeling it in your hand gives you the true sensation. When closed the weight is concentrated in a relatively long, slim area. Sort of like holding a roll of quarters, though not that heavy. With the blade open the balance point seems right at the pin above the shield, perhaps a nudge towards the top of the shield.
The construction is is great. All the seams are smooth and pieces are nicely fit. For an everyday work knife this would figure to stand up very well. One hand opening is very easy. The nail mark is well placed for this purpose. Action is smooth and the lockbar snaps in with a solid click. Closing detent is good. It doesn't close with a snap so much as give a muted thunk. I imagine that has something to do with the striker pin setup. The sound throws me off a bit, I expected it to be louder on closing, but the function is dead on.
I took several pictures but haven't uploaded all of them yet. I figured I'd start with some views of the knife that I hadn't seen posted anywhere yet - in hand, side by side with other knives, looking down the handle, inside the handle, and one gives a peek at the coil spring under the lockbar (forgive the flash on that shot, it was the only to adequately light up the inside that angle). I'll get the rest up later, hopefully tonight or tomorrow.
Well done A.G. You guys have really scored with this one.
For reference the other knives shown are an Uncle Henry 885 and an S&M Swayback Clasp.
