Ah what the heck, getting a 1917 frontier Bowie. Tell why I shouldn't.

This is it until Christmas...except for a spydey manbug and a replacement kabar USMC, but that don't count cos it's a replacement...and a CS hollow handle Bushman.

But that's it until Christmas.

So the 1917 CS Frontier Bowie, doesn't seem that popular with the Bowie fans, is it too mass produced and too CS for the snobs?

Dang it looks very swell.

Well, it’s 12.25” of 1055 steel. I suspect it won’t hold an edge like infi or 3V, but toughness should be a-okay. Looks like a solid knife. If you really want one for fun, I don’t see why not. Post some pics once you have it!

For a serious big knife though, I’d probably opt for the Becker BK9 first based on its good reputation.

Ive got several CS Bowies - its not like I dont like some CS knives (other tacticlol blades not so much).

Tell why I shouldnt

You should buy what ever you want to, it your dough but since you ask;

Please Note: These do come a little rough from Cold steel. There is a heavy coat of oil on the blade, grind lines are not perfect from time to time and the wood handles vary in wood grain and color hue. There may be slight imperfections in this piece.

Tell why I shouldn't
Because you had to ask.
Because it is so CS
Because it's 2020.
Because the are so many other last knives til xmas.
Because it's so CS.
(Note: I have no idea what the knife even looks like. CS knives have never appealed to me, despite their popularity; so I'm not even curious...but, I only mentioned it being "so CS" - twice, even - because of your comment abot it being too CS)

All that said, since you've already know that you're going to get one, I hope it brings you enjoyment. Will it be a user? Or will you just fondle it, gazing in awe of its CSness?;)

I doubt I will consider it doing myself a favor - but maybe I'll look it up later this morning, just for giggles.
Or, you could just post a picture of it...

Several sources mention these as having been aimed at reenactors to some extent (Knifecenter amongst them).

I probs won't use it much.
In that case, knock yourself out. Buy it and stick it on the wall.

Personally, the CS 1917 Bowie doesnt appeal to me at all. I think its fugly clumsy looking and wouldnt buy it but thats just me and a matter of taste.

So many other nice Bowie alternatives out there - not least from CS.

The Bowie in question:

And you should not get it. Because there is a class of tools called the "Langes-Messer".

True. Lots of good custom makers out there that can make a functional and beautiful Bowie with 5160 steel.

Definitely not my cup of tea; but its not my money, therefore it's not my concern. I'm not a fan of the type; so I can't even make an alternate recommendation... but, given the warning that Knife Center felt compelled to post, I have no doubt that there are better options in that price range. If you want it as a display piece, go for it...but, after your content about concealing it iwb, I have to ask WHY?

I'm probably the last person that should give advice since I buy anything that catches my eye.
But these are made in India and for the price they're asking, you'd be better off buying a Budk Timber Rattler for $30.
At least the Budk knife is priced right for what it is.

For $120 and a bit more there are better choices
