Ah what the heck, getting a 1917 frontier Bowie. Tell why I shouldn't.

Don't know why you guys aren't loving this knife more, have you seen the mother loving sheath yet, and that sweet rosewood handle - neat package IMHO.

Hate to see you guys missing out.

So are you trying to justify buying this for yourself or trying to convince to buy it? Based on these comments it looks like more of the latter and less the former.

Don't plan on buying it nor will I consider myself to be missing out, but if it's your cup of tea, then buy it and just be done with it.

That knife frankly looks like cheap trash. I have plenty of better fixed blades, made of better materials, so nah, I think I'll be ok "missing out" on that thing.

Does it even have a finger choyl like the 1917 has?
I find the choil design/placement of the 1917 Frontier odd.
There is a small length of ricasso and then the choil instead of placing the choil further back.

This thread needs a good looking - or at least better looking - Bowie.

Gerber, Trailmaster and modded Survivalist (clip lowered/moved back, choil added, guard bobbed, lightening holes in handle). The Gerber and the Trailmaster both looks better than the 1917. The Trailmaster could be a CS alternative to the 1917.
The Survivalist might not be good looking but at least its functional. Note placement of the choil on the modded Survivalist. Right at the guard, where it belongs IMO.

This one is a rustic style Bowie with positive reviews, ( but cost $70 more)

Again, buy what you want. Its just that others might not share your taste in knives.

Not keen on the sheath. If its like many other CS sheaths, the quality might not be good (see Knifecenters comment on the quality of the blade and handle).

That it has a rosewood handle doesnt matter, if the handle scales are not well made, fitted or even matched. Again, as per the comment from Knifecenter.

This is like walking into a bar and asking the customers to talk you out of having a drink.
Except many of us are trying to talk him out of this one. But maybe you're right - perhaps the op should have a few drinks... either the urge to buy will subside, or he'll just get it done.

I hope this qualifies

I like a lot of cold steel offerings, but this one is overpriced IMO. Their made in India blades are usually more like replica pieces.

I would not buy one, because:

Quarter inch thick blade stock, but the primary bevel starts low on the blade, so the taper to the edge will be quite thick making it a less capable cutter and chopper. I imagine the geometry to be more akin to a splitting wedge. It will smash and bash what ever wood or material you are targeting, however.

Finger choil with a double guard? - you won't be able to get your hand placement over the part of the spine to use the choil properly. This feature moves the cutting edge further from the handle, but does not allow you to choke up on the blade....

...reminds me more of a prop knife than a useful tool.

Cold Steel is marketing it as a thrusting/stabbing tool, with the ability to keep one's hand safe "in the heat of combat."

One of the above you can hide in your waist belt and walk down the street unnoticed the other will get you shot by the nearest SWAT team.

Oh! Yeaaaahhh. I was thinking about as a showpiece, but if you're going to go with the IWB option, the Bowie is for sure the better choice!

In all seriousness, if you like the knife, go for it... just temper your expectations.
I like big knives; though I don't really have a use for a 12" blade, except as a chopper. I've bought plenty of knives that I had no intention of using - sometimes strictly based on aesthetics, sometimes humoring shtf scenario thoughts. Regardless, it was my money, and I bought what appealed to me. Several of them have never been posted here because I don't care to be derided, lol.

Will Lynn Thompson come to your house dressed as a ninja and do a series of backflips which end with him throwing your new knife into a target? If no, then pass.
