Im looking at a rc3 or rc-4 for hiking camping and bushcraft I like the rc-3 because it looks like it would move very well in the hand because of the shorter blade and its thin compared to the rc-4 and i like the rc-4 for the longer blade because theres just more edge and its heavy duty but i cant carry around town because its over 4 inches but i like a folder for edc but i would like to try it. Also i like the rc-4 because i like the kydex because of the more secure snap of the knife locking into the sheath. So if you had to choose for your multi purpose would you go rc-3 or rc-4:cool:

PS bear i know i said i was ordering sooner but then i saw the rc-3s with the rounded pommel. And now i cant find the damn credit card

maybe the longest run-on sentence i've ever seen...

but i think my vote would go to RC 3. i have handled (but not used) both knives and i think for a general purpose bushcrafter the RC 3 is very capable. it is also a good size (but heavy in my opinion) for an EDC blade. a good kydex sheath that will be slimmer and that can be tuned tighter can be had for not too much money.

Dude I can send you both to check out and use.

I know I will get them back sharp;)

Bob if you want my Highland Special shoot me a PM

Sorry, didn't see this before Bob. I got my other RC-3 back from simon a while back and it has a very nice convex.

The RC-3 and RC-4 are both good knives. The RC-3 is a better slicer and works well paired with a bigger chopper while the RC-4 has the size and thickness to act as a stand alone. Given you can't carry the RC-4 in town, then you might be better of with the RC-3.

Siguy - I know your reaction to the RC-3 sheath, and at first I wasn't all that keen on it until later. But man, that sheath has a lot of versatility going for it. Now that I've been using it for a month, I really don't want anything else. The RC-3 is too big for pocket carry, it works best sitting on your belt. Even if it had a closer fitting kydex, the knife is simply too long to carry in your pocket. So I don't see any advantage of going aftermarket on this one. The aftermarket leather sheaths are very pretty though.

Hey guys, I'm not sure about what you're saying. My RC-3 came with brown kydex sheath and a black Molle back thingie. I removed the Molle thingie, installed the boot clip and it makes a great pocket knife.

In fact, I almost like the sheath better than the knife .

For the record, I like the knife, just fine, since I sanded off the coating on the blade (although it doesn't look like it in the pictures)

I love the coyote brown sheath. It is very strong when falling onto rocks from chest high. Very secure too!
Bob if you don't get a knife soon I will have to send you one. The search is fun, isn't it?

tony, thanks for the offer, i might take you up on it later. i still have that little hatchet, it is surprisingly tough to grind, so i'm taking it in little baby steps.
