Ahhh...Thin & Choil-Less

How about a satin version in INFI!

The Yard is talking about how thin it is - the latest Swamp Wardens are that thin - I'd prefer 3/16th's actually.

I heard that this latest batch of Swamp Wardens are running 0.14". This Scrapivore is billed at ~ 1/8" (0.125"), so it might be a tad thinner. That's a good thing. :D

A BIG +1 to BOTH of these comments.

3/16 would be a little better ESPECIALLY since it has a pry bar. 1/8 inch is a little thin for a scaleless handle. These may have to be wrapped to be comfortable.

much better shape than the Wardens, IMO.

I like it.
IMO the ergo's are better than the Swamp Warden and the Scrapivore is CHOILESS!!!! :D

did dan post a price for the LE yet?
No prices as of yet. All we KNOW is that the coated versions will be sub $50.

I don't think an LE has been confirmed yet, just Scrapulation because Dan said the coated one would be under 50bucks.

I'll hold for the LE hoping it's in a less staining steel. Besides, I have enuf skeleton-blades to kill myself. LOL Several times. ;)

Why do you think that?

There is no thicker part closer to the handle that kydex would be holding. If you look at Izula or Swamp warden for example, there is a thick finger guard that is easy to use to hold the blade in the sheath. In case of SCRAPIVORE there is no such thing.

I'm not a kydex guru and I might be wrong, but the way I see it, the only way to secure the knife in the kydex would be using handle hole as an "anchor". This would mean that as soon as you wrap the handle, kydex would have to be reheated and readjusted.
The other way would be wrapping the handle first and then building the kydex that holds on to the wrap. That would mean that kydex will need to be custom fit to the wrap.
The only other way I see is using pure friction of the blade and handle with no "snap closure". That would mean that kydex will be scratching the blade and there will be no secure lockup.

I'd love to hear some opinions and ideas of kydex makers.

I'm not saying that design is bad. I love it. I have a knife like this with no choil. It is an awesome user.

BUMP!

Just wanted to let you HOGS know that the Scrapivore LE is up in the Scrap-Store! Get'em while ya can!! :D

LE Info / Specs (posted by Dan @ SYKCO Forums):

We've decided to bring something very special to the Yard with the new Scrapivore LE. We have pushed the performance envelope for edge holding and wear resistance to an entirely new level.

The Scrapivore LE is designed to be a "cutter" of the highest order. By pouring a full gallon of Rebel Yell bourbon into the quenching oil we have managed to raise the Rockwell Hardness on this SR-101 model to an astounding 62–64 Rc.!!!! The Scrapivore LE will feature a blended Zero-Edge geometry. Couple this with the highest hardness of any SR-101 model to date and you have the ultimate slicer! The beveled end of the handle is designed for prying small items such as paint can lids, ammo containers, beer tabs, large box staples, etc. . .

If you plan on using your Scrapivore for more abusive types of work such as batoning, point prying, etc., we suggest you consider the Scrapivore Combat Grade (Coming Soon). With a slightly thicker blade and a much more rough and tumble hardness of 58-60 Rc, the Combat Grade Scrapivore is ready to handle anything you can bring its way.

Long live Scrap Yard's unparalleled performance to price ratio!!!

Dan
