and I just pitched (but not staked) the Eureka(!) USMC Tent out in the yard, airing it out, the camping is gonna be good next weekend.

The two new ESEE Packs are coming over the next few weeks, the Wallet E&E Kit is, too...ahhh...I can smell woodsmoke and coffee and beef and taters on the skewers and Dinty Moore Beef Clumps and other great things...

Who likes the chillier camping? Man, I love this time of year.

This is the best time for camping.
Fewer people. No creepy-crawlies. No snakes.
Best of all - with no foliage you can actually SEE all the rock formations, rock bridges, arches, and recess caves in Red River Gorge, my backyard outdoors haven!

Autumn is easily my favorite season. First part of Winter too. September through December are the best for months of the entire year in my opinion.

Oh yeah. Certainly prefer to camp and hunt when it's colder out. It's a lot harder to enjoy yourself when your eyes are burning from stinging sweat. Hasn't really cooled down here yet though.

No bugs;
Fewer people;
and I handle the cold really well.

Deer camp is usually the START of my heavy camping season,
Great thread, Don, I think it's better all the way around. :)

To me this is the prime time of the year here in the Rockies. Especially since the sheeple think you can't go out after Labor Day haha. January and February are when the Scouts do their Klondike camping,we encourage winter camping in our troops. It's just as important to know how to camp in all the seasons I think.

Right on the money, Don!

This is the time of year that I spent most in the woods. Absolutely love it!

Absolutely.........Cooler fall temps in the Pacific Northwest are PERFECT for getting out backpacking in the North Cascades and Olympic Park. Gotta squeeze some in before the snow hits and snowshoeing kicks off! :thumbup::thumbup::cool:

This is bar none my favorite time of year to camp. You don't get hot at night sleeping, and its not to hot during the day, plus it is not to cold either. Plus there are no bugs and the colors are amazing up here. I really do love this time of year, I can't wait to get out and do some camping this fall.

The entire last week has been ideal fall weather, though we had 20 hours of rain today and tomorrow it's not supposed to stop.

I have to agree fall/winter is the best time for camping. I just got my gregory palisade pack in this week just in time to put it to work.

Sounds awesome. Late september-november is the best time for me. I love it. Make sure you document your camp out with pics!

This is without a doubt my favorite time of year, planning an overnighter or weekend very soon myself. Hopefully next weekend. Warm here tonight...it's raining.

I could survive in the summer no problem. I work in the heat. You just have to make sure that you don't overexert yourself and stay hydrated and all of the misery of heat and bugs is effortless. ( :) ) But you have to know what you are doing when it gets colder. Not that this is something that is so difficult. When I was a kid I camped more than enough in the summer months to make up for the lack of desire to do it now. :D

We have not had a killing frost yet, but except for that, we have a little bit of Indian Summer going on with the temperatures going above 70 degrees the last couple/few days.

Supposed to chill back down for the upcoming weekend...which is really, really great.

The ESEEs will be whittling and cutting stuff, the autumnal spirits will be pleased.

I only camp from the fall to the spring. I can do 20 degrees long before I can do 80 degrees at night. To me, there is nothing worse than sweating all night, sticking to a mattress pad, a bag, or whatever I'm lying in. I never get any sleep and the bugs drive me nuts.

I've got 20 degree bags and I sleep like a baby in them.
