Ahhhhhh... Benchmade 710

Well thanks for your vote of confidence FlaMtnBkr. It's a simple "mod" took me about 4 or 5 minutes to contour that section, It is indiscernible to the eye afterward but it gives a lot more/smoother access to the thumb stud. A no brainer.

Is yours made of SS or something? I have a G-10 handle with S30V blade on my Military. It's lighter, has no SS liners other than the embedded piece that makes the linerlock and it's thinner than the 710. I don't know about the mfg. specs on the blade, but I have them stacked on top of each other and the blade length is the same, plus the "usable" cutting portions show the 710 to have a much longer cutting edge. Ergonomics and comfort? The Military's frame, linerlock side, digs into the index finger - not as nice as a 710's grip.

The Military has a longer handle but with the hand locked in, the excess is unneeded, and if held at the back it feels very awkward.

I don't believe you guys who say you "need the whole handle to fit your grip" on the Military. I have very large hands that won't even fit into XL gloves at the store and the handle is still long for me. Not too long, but locked into the jimping, it' sticking out of the back of my hand a bit.

I wonder how many posters have both knives, between their arms - as I have, while they're typing this stuff out?
Nah, see... what you don't know is that G-10 is plenty strong on its own. The metal liners don't add much additional strength, while adding extra thickness and weight.
Also, I don't believe you when you say that the 710's handle is more suited to large hands than that of the Military. When I hold my 710, the butt/pommel is completely covered by the heel of my hand, while the butt of the Military's handle protrudes enough to provide opportunity for a variation in grip style, not to mention actual positive purchase. In addition, when you hold the handles side-by-side (knives opened, positioned horizontally, blades pointing in the same direction), you'll notice that the 710's handle is not nearly as "tall" as the Military's. This means that it should be obvious to you which knife will fill your hand more.
Now, all this boils down to personal preference, so I'm not going to expect you to actually read this or think about the things I've said, but there it is.

First off, I said:

I said nothing about the "strength" factor directly.

I'm retired from a rubber & plastic manufacturing company and was the Mixer Operater, meaning if we didn't run the whole plant shut down. I know more than a little bit about polymers. To say that steel liners don't add strength is just ignorant (lack of knowledge, not an insult).

Also, I don't believe you when you say that the 710's handle is more suited to large hands than that of the Military.

I didn't say that either. I don't expect that if you read this stuff you actually comprehend what I said, which is of course, written in plain english. Pay attention.

Are you going to address any of the points I raised, or react in a knee-jerk, defensive fashion?

Well puukkoman,

The way I see it is I made my evaluation of the 710 and compared it to the Military which was brought up.

You come out of the blue and quote my material and type in that I'm saying "this or that." Wrong, I said what I said. You're the one who quoted me and made up things that I didn't say, psychologists call this "fortune telling."

As far as I'm concerned you're full of c***, but to please you I will now address your salient observations.

When I hold my 710, the butt/pommel is completely covered by the heel of my hand, while the butt of the Military's handle protrudes enough to provide opportunity for a variation in grip style, not to mention actual positive purchase.

I believe you.

Agreed!

Now, all this boils down to personal preference

Agreed!

As far as your other assertions about strength of the handles & whatever, that's already been addressed in my previous post.
