Ahoy guys just some more pics

On one trip we were advised to not try getting moisture from barrel cactus except in the most extreme circumstances. Yes, it does contain fair amounts of moisture, but it is really, really bitter. That's not the bad part though. It will cause both projectile vomiting and diarrhea (at the same time, one supposes), both of which lead to dehydration in short order.

He did point out that several other types of cacti were much safer to consume, even though they didn't have as much liquid.

If you ever get to Anza Borrego, go to the visitor information center and take the tour. My ex GF and I got the ranger to talk for a couple of hours after the guided tour, just by expressing interest in what he was telling us. The guy knew his stuff.

Actualy i find the night in the desert to be magical. With the full moon this week i went on a short hike after dinner. Only one night i were thinking about the mountain lion but even that didnt last long.
Dawsonbob i seen them twice and both times in the same area. One thing i noticed was if you try and hide from them so they dont see you. They get away as fast as they can. If you just walk up to them and they stare are you and thats it. I got realy close to them. First time they went down to within 30 feet of so of my GF they just followed her. I mean they started to come to her.
KGB the article DWK2 posted is a very good one. There is alot of water in there and if you have too then you can just grab some bulp and sqeeze it into your mouth bear style lol. I watched the sheep actualy eat the small cucti they would first break it off with there feet and then bite into it. But they eat only the top half. I did go over there and looked at what they been eating.
i walked around and looked at at what i could use out there. One thing i got to tell you you dont want to go walking around at night time unless you got a full moon to see. Some of the books that tell you to walk out night time. Would get you hurt in the first 20min. Its one thing to read about it and another to get out there.

Great pics, Sasha! It has been a while since I spent any time in the desert. I need to go back, this is the time of the year to do it.

The desert shots are looking great!! Thanx for sharing it.

Sasha. I love the knife. Old Hickory's are underrated, and fun projects too.

Awesome pics Sasha. Thanks for sharing. That area looks like great hiking and camping.

I thought I heard somewhere that you weren't supposed to drink the water from barrel cacti. I could be mistaken.
