Aimpoint or EOtech

Aimpoint, better Battery life.

More Robust in what info I have gotten over the years.

Get what you WANT. Its a man made item and may or may not ever fail.

I just like the Aimpoint I have. Change the battery every year and leave it on ALWAYS :D

I like the unobstructed "DOT" as well. NEver liked teh "Ringed" Dot the Eo has.

It's truly a personal preference choice. I have both and the Eotech gets used more. I like the sight picture better on the Eotech. I have astigmatism and the dots are blurry on either one.

+1 on mount choices. I have a Nikon UMC for long range on my AR and am looking between the EO and Aimpoint as well. I have the mounts bought already. LaRue Quick Detach mounts on both the Nikon and whichever other site I use. Also, if you do not have already, buy some good iron sites.

If you knew how many people I handed a pair of .10 zipties and told them to run em around the sight and rail to make sure it stays in place and they laughed you be shocked.

However after they lose a 500$+ optic when things go bad and don't have time to grab it thats when I start laughing.

If your just plinking at the range or hunting its not really needed but I still tell people to do it as its a lesson I've seen people learn the hard way...both aimpoint and EO guys. Two zip ties around the optic/mount and rail will hold the thing down even if the screws come loose, and it can in save your ass (and pocketbook) in many ways. This should also be done to any light you have attached, as well as any magnifier (if you do a 3x flip to side). Its a investment of under a buck that can save you the loss of a great deal more.

And as you said get a set of BUIS just because.

Also to anyone whos looking at a EO, take a minute and look up the "Autoshutoff" they have. Its information that you should know beforehand.

You do know that EOs have a unobstructed dot and other options besides the ringed dot.
