Air travel

Checked baggage.

Prior to 9/11, the FAA had no problem with folders with blades up to 4" being in your pocket.

if i really feel the need for a full on knife then i check one or buy one when i get to my location, but then theres always my little in wallet utilikey from swisstech

Checked baggage. Either in a rolled up sock or shaving kit. Never had a problem (knock on wood) either domestic or international travel.

SAK Air Traveler (Wenger) on person through security. I taped a small piece of paper to each sided that reads, "no knife blade" In Seattle, TSA person only asked if I had broken off the blade. I told him they make a non knife and he was fine. At O'Hare, TSA person inspected every tool, even poking his finger with the mini screw driver.

real blades are in checked luggage, in side pockets inside main compartment, usually securred to strapping. No problems as of late. I like to put them in the same place, so when I land and retrieve my luggage, I can immediately reach into my luggage and obtain my knife before leaving the airport.

I wrap my knives in my clothes and put them as deep as possible in my checked bag. A determined search by a thief would find them. A random search will not.

I put them in a sock and if I am bringing an extra pair of shoes I stick the sock or socks in the shoes. Otherwise I just leave it in the sock attached to it's partner and tucked between other clothes in my checked luggage.

You'll probably laugh, but here's what I do. I started this after Ken Onion's knives were stolen a few years ago. I usually take a tactical folder with either a thong hole or of "open-build" design. I have a loop of cable with an eye at each end, that will fit through the "open-build" of most tactical knives. I loop this through the knife, through a permanent part of your luggage, padlock it, then take a photo of it (with a time stamp) in the luggage. ON ARRIVAL, CHECK IT BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE AIRPORT. If you wait until you leave the airport, and find it missing later, the TSA and/or airline will say you took it out yourself and you're making a false claim.

Nothing's been taken yet, although I have seen where pockets were emptied and medicines were rummaged through.

thx - cpr

Checked luggage. I tie down the fixed blades incase the suitcase ever tears open, at least they will stay inside. For my Spyderco Police, I keep it tucked inside in an area that I know where to access it. That way once I get my suitcase, I can reach in, and clip into my pocket without any fuss before leaving the airport.
