anyone know where this stainless falls in the world of 420 steels?

This is not a standard AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) designation.

It is essential that you give as much information about an alloy with such a designation if you hope to have your question answered. Where did you find this steel? Who makes it? In what knives is it found? Was anything said about it by either the maker or manufacturer of the knives?

since it starts with 420 ... the best this could be would be worse then 440 A, and the worst would be like 18/10 inox.
I'd say in HRC's: 54 max, 40 min.
If you'd post the carbon leveln I could be more accurate.

It was a dive knife. I believe made in Europe. It is the new manufacturer of the Tekna dive/river knife.

If you look at the tests Buck is doing with their 420HC, it is pretty impressive. I thought all 420 was junk until about this last year or so.
