AK 47 in INFI vs. SR101

Hi, this is my first forum post and this will be my first Busse. I placed an order on the Busse website for a AK 47 in SR101 mainly because they aren't available in INFI. Having no experience with either of these steels, I would like some opinions from forum members.
My understanding is that much of what makes their knives special is the heat/ cryogenic treatment of the steel. I guess what I want to know is should I just get the one I already ordered in SR101, or cancel it and look for one second hand in INFI that will probably cost at least twice as much? It will see heavy use, I can't imagine pulling one of these things out on a camping trip and not having my friends taking turns beating on it the whole time.

Get the sr101. You will have little luck finding an infi ak for less than 3 Times what you paid for the battle grade. That is if you can find one at all. Sr101 is awesome for beating the hell out of!

Also if a recall correctly the SR101 version has a more prominent sweep/curve in the blade.
Infi version is straighter.

Nope they are the same, I make sheaths for both and they are interchangeable.
I guess they are slightly different.

Having swung both, I would get both.
SR101 is great and affordable but I would say where INFI really shines is beating on it so if you can get both, let your buddies beat on the SR 101 but have the INFI ready.

I believe JackTheKnifeGuy is right. At least with mine, there was a bit more curve in the BG, and the BG did not quite fit in the kydex sheath that fit the INFI version perfectly. I did a comparison in this thread: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/ak-47-comparison-now-with-pics.1389256/

I initially thought they were essentially the same (except I think no CBT on the BG), but as can be pretty clearly seen from the last picture on the comparison thread (the handles are on a flat, level surface) the BG (top) has just a bit more of a sweep than the INFI (bottom two):

ETA: I got my BG as an "Operation Two Weeks" offer. After the initial offer, the BGs went out of production for a while, and then came back as a regular offer on the website. I don't know whether anything changed between the OP2W offer and their appearance on the website. For all I know, they could have reverted to the original INFI specs.

Hey, Welcome!

There are a number of threads discussing the differences of Infi and Sr101. I would suggest doing some searches in the forum to see what different peoples experiences are with both.

That said. Everything that comes out of the shop is intended for crazy hard use. Beat it, if it dings, hone it a bit, if it rusts, beat the rust off. If somehow you manage to actually damage it unintentionally while using it, the warranty will cover it.

And have fun!!

We all know he's going to get the SR101 and then later have a thread post "My Busse Collection 1 Year Later" and there will be an INFI AK, a Gladius, and a V14 plus 10 other knives. Just like the rest of us...:D

Welcome btw! If you're married, do yourself a favor and cancel your current order and put a parental lock on this site and the Busse website so you can never access it again. Your marriage is more important than knives. Right guys?

My name is UNRL Ghandi and I'm a Busse addict. It's 4.5 hours until I buy my next Busse. HAM HOCKoganzaaa!!!

This does seem to be the general trajectory. :) , but for real, outside of an extreme outlier and destruction tests I've never seen either of these steels fail in the ten years I've been hanging out here..... holy shit it's been ten years. I gotta do something else!! love you all though.

I mean humans are good at breaking stuff but if you have to spend all day and a truck and cement and ten other tools to damage one of these knives they really deserve their reputation as bomb proof.

I stand corrected :)

Hi Razor_Ramone,

Get the BG and love it. SR101 is great stuff. It's an improvement on traditionally treated 52100, which was already one of my favorite knife steels. It'll take and hold a very keen edge.

While you're at it, the ratmandu (RMD, as it's known by around here) is also one of my favorite all-round ~5" blades. For the price, I don't think you can find a better knife in it's size. In the SR101 Combat grade, it's just magic. I'm now waiting for my INFI versions... But I know the value of that SR101 Combat Grade RMD can't be beat.

Oh, I forgot to ask. What color combo did you go with?
A black blade with a black and blue g10 handle. Should look just like the one on the Busse site now, but starting to think a bronze or tan blade would look cool with a different handle... I'm considering ordering two ratmandu's, one for me and one for my brother so maybe I will get to do one of those Color combos as well. Since they're ffg's I don't know if I can resist, should be pretty good slicers since the blade isn't too thick...

Thanks everyone, for all of the responses.

Thanks for
