OK, I got the HI bug. The quality of my CAK is incredible. I'm looking at all the goodies on the HI website and want a smaller blade. I love the looks of the AK Bowie. What are your thoughts and experiences with it?

Or, does HI make a smaller knife that you would recommend? Something good for all around hunting, camping, etc.....

I've been wondering the same thing. It looks like they have a few different small knife models. I like the looks mini AK bowie, it seems small enough to be versatile but hefty enough to do light chopping.

Well. I got a mini AK bowie, and it's not really that "mini"! I want an AK Bowie too, but by the looks of my mini, I'm a little worried about it's bigger "brother"...lol.

I hear the Kumar Karda is really nice. I am sure much more knowledgable folks here will chime in for sure, concerning the smaller knives, and their full-size "cousins".

The HI bug has got me, and it's painful, but in a really nice way...:)

The Mini AK Bowie I had was the smallest size and it was 10" overall. It is an awesome knife. Very thick. very solid. Consider it a pry bar you can shave with. At first I was not knocked over by them but Steely got me started and then another member here sent me one. It was love. Soo much love I gave it away.

Auntie doesn't have any on hand that size now but will when the holidays are over and they get caught up. Then I shall have another.

She also thought they could maybe make my dream of a Micro Mini AK Bowie about 7 1/2" long. I'm really hoping they do and I'm anxious to have one. Should make a great hunting or every day knife. Still thick and beefy, still deep like a Bowie should be, just shorter and also legal in more places.

I wore the 10" around several days even at work in a kydex sheath I made, it worked but was kind of stretching the convenient carry thing a bit.

Shop and Kamis will make few smallest size bowie after Dashain and Tihar holidays, thank you for the great idea

Check my thread on the Mini AK Bowie go down to the end of the thread and I have photos of both the mini and the regular Bowie, you definitely will get some perspective on size of the two. The Kumar Karda is a good blade as well but if I had to choose I think it would be the mini for camping and hunting.

My AK Bowie is a big big knife. It just doesn't seem it compared to the full sized khukris. I have a Kumar Karda that I really like for general purpose use and kitchen use. I've used the Bilton in the kitchen and it is okay, but not as good as the KK.

The R10 really is one super sweet knife for all around carry and utility uses.
I'm taking the ladies camping Halloween weekend. I'll probably bring a medium to big chopper, but I think the R10 or similar size knife will see the most action cutting marshmallow sticks, prepping food, etc.

Yes. They come up from time to time. Auntie might even still have some on hand.

When I was looking at the R-10 initially, I just sent an email to auntie asking if she had any in stock, and she did. They pop up fairly regularly so if she doesn't have one right now she will probably get some more soon.

google "YCS Karda" images
A few come up but the links are dead. So just look at the googled pictures and don't click on them.

edit:
thx Philllllll

Kumar Karda is a really nice one too. I bought one about a month ago and really like it. The YCS Karda is also very nice. There was an R10 with maple handle a few weeks ago that may be unclaimed? ...edit. Nope that one gone. See "last day for Dashain specials" for pic
