AK Bowie or other HI small knife???? Thoughts and opinions

So which blade do you all think would be the better camping/hunting/general use blade?

I am also looking at the bilton model.

Bilton is cute but the handle is small.
The other knives' handles might be small too (?) but they don't have such big butt ends and are therefore comfortably to hold even if too small.
Whats your size and weight limit?
What do you need the knife fore when hunting and camping? Skinning deer, chopping wood or just cutting onions and opening a bag of freeze dried food like most of us ;)

I guess the bigger you can go, the better from a versatility point of view. You can cut vegies even with an 18" kukri, but you cant chop wood with a little karda.

Well I have a CAK, looking for a smaller partner blade for smaller tasks. Food prep, skinning seer, camp chores, etc.

Shop and Kamis will make few smallest size bowie before after Dashain and Tihar holidays, thank you for the great idea

I hope that they don't make the handles too thin or short. There is a tendency to match the handle size to the blade size, but no matter how large or small the blade is, the handle has to fit the hand of the user.

The handle has to fit Bawannas hand so I dont think you will have to worry about that. Brilliant idea I might add! I wonder which Kami will make them?

Bouncing it around and with the great help of Mr. Steve Tall we, perhaps I determined that a 3 1/2 " blade with a 4 or 4 1/4" handle would be close to perfect. The handle on the Mini AK was more than plenty for my average to small hands. Could easily lose an inch. But I liked the tang metal sticking out and the lanyard hole just the way they are.

So we're thinking alike. A comfortable handle with just a shorter but still robust blade. I most want something HI that I can wear on my belt every day. Something that when a bunch of guys are sitting around comparing knives the room goes quiet when I put mine on the table. Different, beastly, extremely robust, but still only 7 1/2" or so long. Something where everyone puts their knives in a drawer and ask me to get them one of mine from Auntie. I break out in goose bumps thinking about it.

Aah yes. Am I the only one who fantasizes about slaying dragons and chopping wood (and veggies) with a Giant Chit Bowie? That GCB is a highly versatile tool in my dreamworld.

I have a Mini, R10 and Bilton but get the most use out of the R10. The Mini is just too big to carry and weighs roughly a ton, no kidding.

Ive been thinking about augmenting the handle on my grandbaby duichirra but not sure how to go about it. Has anybody had any success with that kind of thing?

Also, the game is on for those teeny bowies when they drop. Bawannas been talkin about it so much I definitely want to snag one. A testament to your skills as a salesman, bawanna.

Hey thats not a dream for me verpra. I just cant find a dragon! Must be looking in all the wrong places

I'm really excited about them, I hope I'm in the first handful of folks that get one. Break my heart to watch em all get scooped up and not have one my own self.

I'm really not much of a salesman but I do ride for the brand when I find something that blows my dress up.

In reading everyone's input and viewing various photos, the full size AK Bowie seems almost too much knife for anything but the toughest tasks. I think the mini Bowie (and even more so Bwana's micro mini) would be the most practical blades for average field/utilitarian usage. The regular AK appears best suited for serious chopping chores, somewhere between a machete and small axe. As impressive as it is, the standard AK Bowie is far more horsepower than I would need. The smaller siblings meld the best attributes of blade quality (thickness, toughness, etc.) and workable size into a near perfect package.

yeah I am voting for the R-10 as well, mine has been on my belt since I got it, and has cut wood, meat, vines etc in the short time its been in service, got stained by willow acid and tannic acid but looks great still

Please give us advanced warning if you feel like this is going to happen:barf: Bawanna you have probably sold more knives for HI than any of us:thumbup:

Yeah Bawanna, put some pants on if you can't keep your dress down! Nobody wants to see that!

I imagine that would be rather distasteful or perhaps even gross if your not accustomed to such things.

Perhaps a nice pair of pantaloons just to be on the safe side.

I'll be needing a belt to carry my Micro Mini anyhow, might as well start the transition now. Now what to go with my pretty pink pumps.
