WoW!
I just received an AK bowie from Yahgdu's deal of the day and it is some hunk of a knife. It is built like a tank with a nice edge to it. The first thing I did was to smash a cinderblock with the spine -- not a mark on the knife.
I don't see many posts about his knife, it sure is a beefy monster of a bowie. Great job again HI!

Welcome to the Clan of the AK Bowie, brother. It takes a special man, ney, a beast of a man that can appreciate the primal form that is the AK bowie. Not the curvy romantic shape of the Cherokee Rose, but it has an honest beauty. Any one that hefts it and asks what it is for is quite frankly blind or stupid. It is an unstoppable chopping monster. Not a big monster, but a monster nonetheless. I can strap my AK bowie to my hip and not feel under knifed but for the most specialized of trips. I use it at the campground, in the kitchen, in the work shop, at the office, and on motorcycle trips. It sleeps by my bedside and gets packed in my suitcase right after my toothbrush. IMHO, the AK is like a black T-shirt. It goes with anything and looks bad @$$ doing it:D
Now, there is a slightly more true-to-orginal-design coming out as the AK cleaver that has been spearheaded by Munk based on how Cobalt had orginally designed the AKB to look. I WILL get one of these. I was so excited that the AK bowie, although getting a make over, was getting a bit of excitement rolling behind it. I like Munk's new design. I really do, but the tried and true clip point of my old AK bowie is special to me. Maybe i'll wear one of each on my hips. I'll call one "Mr. Sinister" and the other "Dy-no-rite".
Anyway, welcome to the AKB. Treat it kindly, respect it, and trust in it. No other knife is served me better.

The AK Bowie is an awesome blade indeed. Quite a few have passed through my hands. Some better than others, but all of them wicked. I should have another "modified" AK Bowie finishing up here soon that will blow you away, though. Keep your eyes peeled. ;)

Dave = welcome to the Club. :D

Now give 'er a proper sharpening and you'll never look back:

Drop that'un on your foot, and your dancing days are over my friend.

Nice Dan, but next time splatter some stage blood around and have a woman screaming in the background, that'd make 'em spill their coffee. :D

Ha Ha ! My lil AK can slice sheets of paper now ! :D

Well not as much as Dan......but still pretty good. :)

That's wonderful Astro!!!! Feels good to be able to sharpen one to shaving sharp by hand ainnit?  :D

Thanks Dan !

And thanks Yvsa ! Yes it felt good ! And I did it in a very primitive way too.

I double-side taped the sand-paper onto a plastic ruler, just to have a hard backing and to get my fingers away from the edge. And went at it from grit 220 to grit 800. It took a LONG time......every thing was judged by eye to try to achieve/retain that convex edge. Now I know my lil AK much better, I know every little curves, little undulations of the edge, and where its the hard and soft part. :D

My malla's next........Oh my goodness don't know how long that will take...... :o
