Which one is better for kitchen duty, general utility and ease of carry (will make a new sheath) !!

I have both & they are so light I'd just go with the AK
for the slight light-chop advantage.

For EDC 'round about home & not woods,
I'd probably use a Bilton for even easier carry.

Get the hi-gauss magnet implant in your sternum
& you won't even need to make a sheath.

:D

I have had a chance to look the 12"siru over that belonged to someone else. I like the way it feels in the hand but I have two AK's and can't afford any thing right now.

I have used the AK's for just about every thing that has come my way that I have needed a knife for. Even a couple of quickies as a draw knife too. Standard model Bura blade and a Kumar Villager. I like them both but the villager just looks mean and even the wife says so. She is a bit scared of it. She will handle the Bura but shies from the villager. Either one will cut with very little effort. They work for me. :) :D

Brendan?

REAL men just stab the blade in their thigh when they walk around.:p

Merry Christmas to you and Jill.

Hi Brendan, out of those two, I would go with the Sirupati. Have you considered getting a Pen knife? It does pretty good in the kitchen.:)

How much difference is there really between the AK and the Sirupati in 12". I keep considering a Sirupati but I have 3 12" AK's. One I tried to convex and really just reprofiled and made it a really light quick feeling blade. The other two are much more "wasp" waisted and have the first convex edge that I have received. One of those seems very light and quick and really speaks to me as others have said but they were bought for future gifts for my kids so I was considering another. I was just wondering if there is enough difference or advantage in the AK and Sirupati in this length for me to purchase the Siru or if the AK's pretty much serve the same purpose and save my money for one of my other wishes like a GS?

Whatever feels best, or talks to you.

( You might consider choosing a 15" Sirupati over a 12" AK... my Pala rehandled one - oh shoot, it's like a kid with a hammer. Everything needs hammering.
Get a khuk, any khuk and you will improvise a use for it.

I already have that 15" Siru that I am in the process of adding a personal touch. Seems the more that I learn on the forum the more that I experiment with at home to really make a Khukuri mine.

The pen knife gets REALLY high marks from me!

Chops as good as my 15" Sirupate. I don't know if it the good Bura tempering or what, but the thing holds an edge fantastic. All in a neat little package

Received a Pen-Knife by Bura and a 12" AK villager by Sher today.

I would prefer the Pen-Knife for kitchen duty because on a flat surface(due to the relaxed angle) the cutting edge is "longer" while the chopping ability is about the same. On the lighter Sher AK the handle is a bit too short but the ricasso is long enough to choke up and place the thumb on the spine, the blade is not in a perfect line with the grip but the point shows a bit to the left when you look over the peened tang and the bolster - I hit my target everytime where I wanted to hit it nevertheless so this is not important.
I like the steel furniture, the convex edge and the solid feel of this little AK but I will work a bit on the knife. The sharp point of the buttcap will have to go as will the chape. I will flatten the scabbard by taking out the loops for karda and chakma and make it a light rucksack-camping all purpose knife as I will give away the heavier but in my eyes more useful Pen-Knife to a friend who ordered a khuk for the kitchen. Both are winners, especially at a price of 105 US$ for both (I had to add 20 $ shipping and 13,75% customs duties) it was a bargain. AK is a good way to go, Pen-knife seems better if weight is not an issue, cannot say anything about the 12" sirupati as I do not own one.
