I picked this camp knife up today. It's L6 forged from 1 piece of steel into a great camp knife design. It's 14.75 OA 9in blade. The handle has "flutes" ground or forged(I can't say for sure) in it for a better grip.Anyone have any info on Al's knives? I'm also curious about what the value might be. I traded for it so there wasn't a real dollar value assigned to it. Any info will be appreciated.

Bill,
Can't give you value amount, but I can tell you that Barton was highly respected as a bladesmith and teacher. If I'm not mistaken, he recently passed away after a fight with cancer.

Dave,
You are correct. We did loose Al earlier. Bill from the knives of Al's that I have seen, I am willing to bet you have a fine one.

As Dave said Al was (still is) highly respected as a smith and teacher. Was lucky to have been able to sit on on a few of his instructional discussions.

Hard for me to place a value on it. Most of the knives I have seen from AL were bowies that traded in the 1000 range and upward to 2 or 3. I am sure he had even fancier work that went for more.

Dave Ellis ABS, M.S.here. Al Barton was a very close friend and one of my knifemaking teachers. I have a number of Als knives and would be interested in purchasing or trading for yours.
